Side topic, has anyone here looked for employee or resume submittals via SSC? If so, what was your quality of recipients? We're running into a dearth of reasonable employees for what we're looking for and I'm never happy doing a hundred interviews, so I'm curious if this here is a good resource.Nope, never done it or applied for anything through here. Any chance you'd allow remote work?
Not at first, no, not completely. We do telecommute and the like but full telecommute is not an option for this position, particularly not in the beginning when I'm expecting a lot of ramp-up needed to the environment and expectations. My boss, and I, do like some face time especially with new employees.
For the others, it's in PHX, AZ, primarily an SSIS dev with enough optimization and SQL knowledge to not hose the source and target systems (we've got some financially caused restrictions on some infrastructure) on financial systems so isolation knowledge and the like come into play. Basic SSRS knowledge (Level I) is necessary as well. There's not a lot of room for immediate growth except inside the SSIS tool as there's around a 6 month cleanup backlog that needs to happen for our conversions and getting everything to new standards. It's a FTE position however.

What area are you in? Might know someone I can refer.

Do you have a local SQL Server group? I know the one here in Boston starts every monthly meeting with "Is anyone here hiring? Does anyone here need a job?"

Yeah, only one problem. Their meeting schedule as pulled from their page:
We meet on the second Wednesday of every month (with exceptions of July, August and December) and run from 4:30 to 6:30pm.
I work for a living, dangit, they meet rarely and at a really bad time for me. I don't usually leave the office before 6.

4:30 to 6:30? That's weird timing. Much of the reason I can go to the ones here is that they start at 7.

Craig, maybe you can email the head of the local user's group and let him/her know you're hiring and which agencies job seekers should contact.

I might make an exception once a quarter. There can be some good value in touching base with the local users group. Lots of smart people, good employees in there.

I hear ya on the bad timing of the meeting. I would try to make an exception for this infrequent event. Even once a month seems ok to me.

Are you using agencies for this position? Is it contract or perm?

Yes and perm.
Regarding the exceptions: I currently have to make those often enough for medical reasons (dental), and my current contract is kind enough in that regard. In theory, adding one more to the list might fly... then again, it might be the final straw.
I agree they're worthy, but they need to fit into my schedule, not me into theirs, right, wrong, or indifferent. I know others have different opinions about the value, but like I told my hygenist who wanted me in four weeks later to lose another two hours of work, "That ain't gonna happen on a whim". I certainly don't expect them to change their schedule for me, but I'm not really keen on modifying mine for theirs, either.

Yeah, I understand that. I'd be interested in hearing how attendance is at those meetings. We meet at 6 and have plenty of late arrivals.
