Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • Congrats, Gail. Well deserved, I'm sure. I missed it online, but I will try to make it live.

  • People just came to me because we have the "problem" of apostrophes and ampersands in our data. I showed them this http://xkcd.com/327/

I was surprised they hadn't seen it, so I wanted to make sure you all had. Just on the off chance that one of you missed it.

When you encounter a problem, if the solution isn't readily evident go back to the start and check your assumptions.

    GAH!

I have a lot of love for Brian Knight and Pragmatic Works (his company), but I'm about to throw stones at SSIS Guy for posting nothing but advertisements on old BI forum posts for PW's products.

I've reported two posts already. Looking at his profile, there are lots more. Anyone know who this spammer is?

    Brandie,

I was going to email you, but saw this and responded here. I don't know who this is (domain doesn't return anything), but I checked about 6 or 7 posts and they're relevant to the discussion. Recommending a third party tool is fine when it fits and it fits in those discussions.

I tend to only whack those that aren't relevant to the discussion at hand.

I fail to see how this fits into the discussion:

    http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic1077236-147-1.aspx#bm1101998

The OP asks for relevent books to learn a specific subject area, and he gets adaptors of a 3rd party company recommended?

edit: yes, I picked one of the 51 posts, that doesn't fit. I'm in a bad mood today 🙂

Well earned too. Congratulations! Nothing like knowing you have a reservation.

Well deserved Gail, but I don't think you had to worry too much about being selected. If I remember correctly at lease one of your session at Summit 2009 was a top 10 wasn't it?

While I'm all for having new speakers the Summit isn't the place for real newbies. That's what all the Chapters (real & virtual), SQLSaturday's, SQLRally's, and various online sessions are for, getting experience to be ready for the Summit. If PASS didn't give half the Summit sessions to MS (yes there are some good MS sessions, but a lot of not so good ones), then there would be plenty of room for new speakers in addition to the top speakers like Gail, Grant, etc...

Okay, I'm off my high horse now.

  • Hey Mr. SQLKiwi,

Have you submitted any sessions for the Summit? Your optimizer session would be a great addition to the schedule (hint, hint).:-D

  • Thanks everyone

Ironic that the session from 24HoP was one I wasn't considering submitting for summit

Top 5 in the DBA track, top 10 overall.

However I can't qualify for a spotlight session based on that, as it was not last year's summit.
