Are the posted questions getting worse?

That's another thing that's been bothering me. How do you get all those certs in 2-3 years without using braindumps? Or passing with the absolute minimum score?

I got 2 certs in about a year by building a small office / home office network and doing everything wrong very deliberately. It taught me a lot and enabled me to pass the exams with brain dumps.

I poured every spare minute I had into it, read a lot of books, and did a lot of exercises, but it worked enough to get me my very first DBA job. I learned even more and became a respectable "generalist" about six months later. But I'd never claimed to have been a senior DBA at that point, even if I had the work title.

And now I feel like I'm talking about breath mints...

So... what's the difference between a person with an alphabet soup of certs, and a breath mint?

I'm really hoping you have a punch-line here.

Cert or cert? That is the question.

You figured that out too quickly... πŸ˜€

You can always mail it to me if you want... I won't tell a soul :-).

BTW did you have a chance to tackle my puzzle to get all the prepared plans in the cache (from sp_sprepare)?

Stefan - that is one reason why I have no certs. I began studying many times from back in the late 90's for an MCSE and MCSD but never completed. Again when .NEat was invented. Again when .NET 2.0 came out. When I started on my CISSP, I became dismayed by a large percentage of fact-cramming test takers who got a cert then did a flushcleanbuffers. Then I was against certs for a number of years.

Now, I am learning to appreciate certs to fill in a nice baseline (I have great peeks and valleys in what I know) and I'm quite close to getting my first cert in 2008. Then I'll be a super pro. Uh, at installing SQL Server. It's a start though.

I have a collection of the things. (exam transcript up to 2 pages at the moment). Planning another 2 and a half to 3 this year. Depends how things go.

The 2 BI certs I'm going to write cold, no studying. I'll see how they go. The last one, well, another story totally

No, I am resisting casting further aspertions on Craig's mental health.

    No, not seen that one.

I started on something for that (and cursorfetch), didn't get far enough that I'm happy to distribute. More work for another day...

The last idea seemed promissing but it's over my head. So if you just happen to know the answer or ahve a few minutes to spare, I'd really appreciate it.

Yep. You have alphabet soup, just not after your name.

I understand 'the last one' (after BI) might have a 'M' both before and after the 'C'. I know, nearly decryptable formula here. <boast and pulling up pants like Mr. Ferley/Barney Fife> that's because I read the first page of a CISSP book. You know, the copyright page. :ermm:

You are one of the folks who keeps their buffer in good order and well fed. Folks like you are the reason certs gained in value in the eyes of employers.

Ninja, I can hardly throw stones on that particular point. Being a speed reader tends to work against me on the online forums.

Same here... hence #1 for amount of wrong answers. I just had to give it up and "waste" the few extra seconds to get the question right. You know what? I usually give better answers for that.

In his case it seems that he just doesn't understand english, doesn't read the question beyond the first 10 words or just doesn't care about the OP and SSC.

Bottom line is we need to watch him, very closely, if we want to keep the HQ community we have here.

I don't know how closely any one of us will need to watch him. If nothing else, he will allow for a set of good forum posts where mechanical details are explained to other newbies. I need a slightly gentler hand though, but I couldn't resist the dig at his soup. That's hand typed or copy/pasted, it's not his signature.

More to the point is the endless list of certifs in his signature. At some point if you search for a cert code, his name will be on top (or near) the top of the search engine... boom instant celebrity / expert status.

Have you noticed that's not a signature? At SSC, the signature is not included when you quote a post (quote mine, you'll see name and tag are missing), but if you quote his posts you get name and alphabet soup. Hence he's either typing or copy-pasting it every time.

Heh, we came to the same conclusion on him. πŸ™‚

  • GAH!

I have a lot of love for Brian Knight and Pragmatic Works (his company), but I'm about to throw stones at SSIS Guy for posting nothing but advertisements on old BI forum posts for PW's products.

I've reported two posts already. Looking at his profile, there are lots more. Anyone know who this spammer is?
