Are the posted questions getting worse?

Am I being too harsh here?

    Absolutely not...

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

So I got a question in email (it's not just posters, I get them regularly). I have a sig I paste in that replies and says "we don't answer in email, please post at http://www.sqlservercentral.com/forums"

    I get this:

    ==

    Dear Sir,

May I know, how can we put our question into your site so that every body can see the question and if any body has answer then he could reply. Please brief me the step to put my question into your site.

    ==

Nice and polite, but apparently I'm now coaching how to post in a forum as well as answering questions.

Heh... well, you did say that the position of DBA was in a sorry state... I guess that kind of cinches up the answer. 😛

I tried to take the high road for a change. However, I am ready to buy a round for Sergiy 🙂

Heh... Sergiy... I've learned a huge amount from him. He does get right to the point. Fastest pork chop thrower on the whole forum.

  • I'm waiting to see if the ranter gets off his high horse or comes back for more ugliness. I bit back my first reply which was...

Really stupid paradigm if you ask me, and I think it needs to be improved upon.

    1. Did anyone ask you? Show of hands.... ???

    2. Who CARES what you think? Show of hands.... ???

  • I think the guy's a troll, trying to start trouble.

Nothing to see there, just move along.

  • Or he's a kid who is finally reaching a comfort level in one language, and now he wants everything to be like that so it will come easier to him. I live in a college town and read the school paper for amusement more than news. Freshman editorials are always a hoot. One kid complained about the lack of fine dining locally ... because there wasn't an Applebee's chain in town yet. His idea of haute cuisine was bar food.

  • Troll he may be from the dark side he is. Plotting his next move maybe, devising a trap perhaps? Looking for something SQL can not do?

After his last post, from him nothing more has been heard...

    :w00t:

  • Perhaps he sensed the strength of the Force within you, my little green friend.

More likely, he hit the bars soon after his last post.

Anyone else care to join the fray??

Sorry, no. I've 'engaged' that one before and the threads never end without insults getting thrown around. He takes criticism and correction very badly.

    Nope.

I've been caught with errors like that before, and you've called me out the same sort of way. I've never taken it personally or "harsh".

    Thanks.

I'm often unsure if I should call out little mistakes like that. Doubly so after I got an email last week complaining that I unfairly pick on people for small mistakes.

Sorry, no. I've 'engaged' that one before and the threads never end without insults getting thrown around. He takes criticism and correction very badly.

Actually, the insults started early when I was trying to get him to provide a concrete example for us to look at. When he finally provided a simple example, it took less then 5 minutes to convert his cursor to a set-based solution, that included the time to cut and paste from SSMS and write the reply.

  • OK, this is the most disturbing thing that I have read in a while. Read it closely. Brrrr...

I'd read it but I can't seem to get to it.

  • Finally got to it by cutting and pasting the url while writing the above post.

Could your chill come from the mention of our favorite interloper??

That's odd. It works fine for me.

Could your chill come from the mention of our favorite interloper??

    Oh yeah, definitely.
