Alright, there's any number of things to take my article apart for, half of it's an opinion... but there's vs. there are?I'm going to assume I'm just too tired to realize the problem here.
I really truly hate grammar police. I think there are fewer of them online now than there used to be, that or they don't hang around tech forums much. To hell with him/her (although probably a him).
If grammar is the only fault they can find with Craig's article, than I'd say it's a damn fine article! @=)

However, it is strange we still didn't get any ANSI recommendation for this topic :hehe:
Just hand on for a bit and I can come up with something to cover that.

Lemme go read it and then nitpick his opinion :hehe:

As I recall an english teacher being very nitpicking on the language being used any other way than the one only to be found in literature that needs to be read at least 4 times to be able to interpret it, some people just don't get it....
If this were a 100% sterile language department, our beloved SSC wouldn't be credible for being an all peoples forum.
IMO we try to use correct language, but it isn't our top level requirement. The content is !

It's a singular versus plural reference. "There's" = "there is" (singular) while "there are" is a plural reference.
And I'd have committed the worse writting sin of all... "there're". It's legal and I may have to start using it just to upset the ring-knockers out there. π

I haven't read the article in question, but as a proofreader, writer, and editor myself, I know that can be a seriously distracting issue for people. Especially if you're using plural nouns and a singular reference or vice versa.
This doesn't distract me, but HEY LOOK, A CURSOR!

I like constructions like wouldn't've. There's one like that that I use a lot, but I can't think of it now. It is something people say frequently, but write out instead of abbreviating.

At one point we had a page peel there that opened and covered up the entire screen. I think it was from Quest, but it was definitely a $$$ thing. Probably circa 2006-2007.This one is for SQL Monitor, and there is some hope that other large customers from Red Gate will implement the page peel. So far it hasn't annoyed me, and likely will stay. That corner is surprisingly attractive to advertisers.
Heh, sorry to start an uproar. My IE9 was interacting VERY poorly with it and was taking over half a screen when I lit up the site. Is fine when it's not having an allergic reaction to IE9.
CTRL+R or a forced refresh should fix it. There were some caching issues for some browsers, including me with FF.

Too tired to separate singular from plural?
But in the particular context it's not something that bothers me (although there are some contexts in which that error would really grate).
No, I realize what he's pointing out, the then/than as well. Just was too tired to realize why it would be such a problem as to 'lack coherence'. Ah well, no biggie.

Thanks for all the support folks. Now if I can ever find a weekend off I will finish editing the other one that I've got 90% of the way there and get it over to Steve. 1 day off in 24 days is painful.

Tried my first Powershell script today, kinda fun! Our corporate IT is on an Access Search & Destroy mission, they wanted me to help them ask around the local departments and locate all the Access datasources, but I'm too lazy for that, so Powershell to the rescue! One question though, does it handle and hold *everything* in memory? My box slows to a crawl and won't pick up again until I get out of PS, even after it's done with my script.

I just saw it in the discussion thread on the article. That's... well, impressive. I didn't think I remembered how to blush. :hehe::w00t:
