At one point we had a page peel there that opened and covered up the entire screen. I think it was from Quest, but it was definitely a $$$ thing. Probably circa 2006-2007.This one is for SQL Monitor, and there is some hope that other large customers from Red Gate will implement the page peel. So far it hasn't annoyed me, and likely will stay. That corner is surprisingly attractive to advertisers.
Wow, and I really hadn't noticed it. I won't tell any advertisers.

Update on contractor that bailed.
His reason for bailing - his integrity was brought into question. And I did bring it into question - with plenty of good reason.

Heh, sorry to start an uproar. My IE9 was interacting VERY poorly with it and was taking over half a screen when I lit up the site. Is fine when it's not having an allergic reaction to IE9.

Yeah, walking away from a half done job proves that you do have integrity.

Leave the contract early without notice and prior to completing the stated work. What does his contract require? Solo or contracting house?
Solo contract and it required him to perform some work on my house. I find it very dishonest to pull a shenanigan such as he did - do half the work (25% of which was done incorrectly) and to leave the rest in an un-done leaving all of it in a state of unpassable via inspection.
Make sure it's well documented and then contact the State to have his license revoked.

How many of you would walk out on a job without completing it (as a contractor/consultant) - if you were getting paid?Never (short of illegal practices by the company)
Even the client from hell, I would finish up, document, hand over then leave. To do otherwise is foolish. A consultant's reputation is so important.
Exactly what I was thinking. I am debating how to handle the situation now.
I'm assuming you've already done this, but if possible I'd try to have a face to face discussion with the person and see if I could find out why he/she was doing this. There might be extenuating circumstances (serious health issues in the family, or even something like an uncomfortable work environment that the consultant is finding that you don't know about, or the skill set you need is beyond what they can actually provide) that are driving this behavior, and this may be the only way said consultant can think of to extricate him/herself from the situation.
(If that's the case, the person needs to work on their consulting skills as well, but I can see there being the possibility that they just don't know how to handle something that's putting them in a difficult position.)
Nah... a good contractor would explain the situation and find the appropriate replacement for you. The only reason I can see a contractor walking out without explanation is that he got a better offer somewhere.

Is it just me or does the constant resizing of the new ad 'Click here to monitor SSC' annoy the hell out of the rest of you, too? What ad?
Top right corner - looks like a page corner turned down
Top left corner for me (I'm using FireFox). It is slightly annoying, but not enough to get the hell out of me. 😀
Your hell must be deeper rooted. Mine flies out at a whim. 😛
As I mentioned briefly, I did figure it out. It's something to do with the newer versions and needing to be compatable with older code, apparently.
Or increased security. I can see it at home (Firefox 3.6.15) but not on laptop (Firefox 3.6.16)

I use IE9 for weeks/months now and I didn't have any problems (yet).

The add has been annoying, but I guess the SSC webmaster ( and his team ) fixed the annoying part of it.
So not it is only the "peel off when hover" left.
No problem with that.
I hope this time it also opens in a new tab or window.

Alright, there's any number of things to take my article apart for, half of it's an opinion... but there's vs. there are?
I'm going to assume I'm just too tired to realize the problem here.

That sort of grammar error is a pet peeve of mine in published material, but in free articles that help you learn it isn't a problem. Heck, I didn't even notice on the first read through!
