Are the posted questions getting worse?

Even when I know what's going on, I'm confused.

How do you think I feel? :hehe:

Just think about how it'll look like when we all change back to our "normal" avatars (Gail, you have to start, of course...) and someone reads this section of THE THREAD in the future....

How about a Friday poll: "Do we want GilaMonster back?"

Somebody could just go through and screenshot each avatar/name combo for sake of future readers

How can you count replaced icons in units of a Turkey?

And what would the average Turk make of 6.9382384 Turkeys?

Personal side note: OMGWTFBBQ. Today is annoying. I've got a failure in QA I can't reproduce in Dev with the same load files. Now I need to go through the entire schema with a fine toothed comb to figure out what didn't get into a rollscript.

Red Gate's SQL Compare & Computer Associates Erwin (there's a compare tool in there somewhere) are wonderful tools.

I need a reversed trigger paintball marker today.

Just to add to the fun, I have a dental appointment in an hour to make things even more... pleasant.

EDIT: Ah, that's a little better. Sorry for the livejournal moment, but I needed to vent.

Hey -this is Grant. Did you try Red Gate's SQL Compare? It might be worth using the free trial - load it up, point it at both databases and sit back and wait....

Thanks Grant, this is Gail. I thought about it but the war to install 'new software' around here is... uncomfortable. Lockdown from on high. If I use my katana as a bargaining tool anymore HR said they'd reprimand me for having shinier things then the rest of the techies and making them jealous.

Hey, CraiGila, I just noticed this after I posted my comment about tools. Here's a quick & dirty compare that requires a linked server:

    SELECT DEV.Table_Catalog, DEV.Table_Schema, DEV.Table_Name, DEV.Column_Name,

    DEV.Column_Default, DEV.Data_Type, DEV.Character_Maximum_Length as ChLen,

    DEV.numeric_Precision, DEV.Numeric_Scale, DEV.Datetime_Precision

    FROM Information_Schema.columns DEV

    LEFT OUTER JOIN QCServer.MyDB.Information_Schema.columns QC

    ON DEV.Table_Name = QC.Table_Name

    AND DEV.Column_Name = QC.Column_Name

    WHERE DEV.Data_Type <> QC.Data_Type

    OR ISNULL(DEV.Character_Maximum_Length,'') <> ISNULL(QC.Character_Maximum_Length,'')

    OR ISNULL(DEV.numeric_Precision,'') <> ISNULL(QC.numeric_Precision,'')

    OR ISNULL(DEV.Numeric_Scale,'') <> ISNULL(QC.Numeric_Scale,'')

    ORDER BY Table_Name, Column_Name;

Yes, I know. Don't use functions in a WHERE clause. Hey, I said it was quick & dirty, didn't I? @=)

EDIT: Forgot the Column_Name part of the join.

Please don't - it isn't worth the extra IO
