I see SanDroid has started digging again...

    Where?

Still on your QOTD. bottom of the page and then on the next page.

I love when Gail is correcting someone about how the question is correct and he comes on to tell her "As I see you and others have noticed, there are several things wrong with the question and answer", part of the answer being her blog post...

you cannot, and will not, win that argument. Best to let it go.

Ah geez... I thought he was done over there. Yep, I'm letting his remarks go, and after several PMs, even have blocked him from sending me any more.

Wow, his latest post... He's either unhinged, has no idea what he's talking about whatsoever or is the trolliest type of troll. Maybe a combination of all 3. It is a train wreck and you just have to look as you go by.

    I'm voting for the combination.

Jeff, I never did get this. Did you miss my previous post to send it on?

Apparently so. I'll send it out when I get home tonight. Thanks, Wayne.

Jeff - sent you my comments on your proposed article via email at 8 PM.

Thanks for giving me the privilege of reading it before it was published, I appreciate that.

It was an honor for me to have you pre-review it, Ron. As a matter of fact, one of your suggestions with @End+1 showed me that I could simplify another explanation and the graphic for the "Inchworm" splitter. Thank you for the great suggestion.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

I've actually found, in some circumstances, cursors are faster than WHILE Loops.

  • I'm sure y'all already know, but today is the last day of $299 price for SQLRally. Goes up to $349 tomorrow and then $399 May 1st. Also if you want to be in Grant's Performance Tuning pre-con you need to get in as it is filling up. The BI pre-con is filling up as well.

  • I can't explain this one...

Simple concat takes 500 times longer than select *, yet for xml is just as fast as select *.

    No locking, no transactions ?!?!?

Ok, had enough complaints about the lizard. Let's see if this is better.

    What/who is it?

And what was wrong with the lizard?

Can't recall, I deleted the PMs. Complaining that it's ugly, that no sensible person would have a venomous lizard as an avatar, that I should delete the 'insect' picture.

Can you send me the picture? I'll make it my avatar.:-D

I'm in too! But since I don't get the chance to post often, it's more of a show of support for Gail than anything since no one will see it. It would be awesome to see an entire thread somewhere with Gila Monsters on it though. I'd die laughing. πŸ˜€

    Me too. :hehe:

With his "I have no specific assertion about the version store" he reminds me of a guy I worked with a Dunn & Bradstreet back in the mid 90s. He was the kind of guy that gives consultants a bad name. He'd disrupt every week's staff meeting going on and on about eveey thing that was brought up and several people would argue with him whenever he did mention specifics because he was plain wrong. Finally during one meeting another of my co-workers said "Mike, what's your point?!" Flustered, he replied "I don't HAVE a POINT!" and we all laughed at him.

After that meetings went much smoother since every time he opened his mouth someone would say "Oh you don't have a point", we'd all laugh and get on with the meeting.
