Whoa! What? You're a youngster and you don't live in a cave, how is it that an old <insert inappropriate term here> like myself knows what rickrolling is?Somehow, Grant, I think I'm older than you are. @=) But thanks for the compliment.
Late 30s/early 40s? Right? That makes you young in my book, since I'm in that same range and I still get accused of being a kid by lots of people.
You get accused of being a kid in your late 30s/early 40s? What are you doing, standing around on people's lawns?
Nah. I just know a lot of people who are really, really old. Like over 25, even!
Really though, I think it has to do with misestimation of age. I'm accustomed to people who are younger than me thinking that I'm younger than them. Then I'll drop some reference to the music I listened to in the 70s and leave them with a cognitive dissonance that has all kinds of entertainment value. So, when I work with people in their 40s and 50s, a lot of them will use phrases like, "kids like you", or "when you're a bit older", or "when I was your age". Some small amount of it is legit, but many of the people saying things like that are within a year or two of my own age.
I don't get carded for R-rated movies, but most people are 10-15 years off when they estimate my age. I grow a beard to add 5 years to my age, and then they're off by 5-10, but they still "misunderestimate" my age.
Just the other day, someone was telling me that, "If you'd lived through the Reagan years ...", without realizing I lived through "the Carter years" and have some slight memory of "the Nixon years" even.
Heh, I have pretty much the same problem. When asked to guess, most people guess 10-15 years younger than I am. My hair is starting to go gray though, so that might stop soon. I like that the older I get the more they underestimate by. 10 years ago they guessed 5-7 years younger than I was then.

I'd take that bet. I haven't broken 50 yet, which is why I love having Jeff & Allen White around, so someone is older than me, but I'm generally 10 years older than the oldest people I'm hanging around with at these events. Some of the punks like Johnathan Kehyias & Jess Borland can be down right frustrating they're so young.
Well Grant, you can add another one to the older than you bucket. π

I have better memories of Nixon's second term than his first. Lyndon Johnson's, nope just not old enough and I really don't remember what I was doing when JFK was assassinated other than I was alive when it happened.

Do your chores and we'll let you have icecream after supper and might even increase your allowance. π

Bah! When I was a kid I didn't get an allowance. I got paid a set amount for each chore I did beyond the initial free ones. And that was when I could talk my dad into "remembering" to pay me.

I think my parents thought it was better than having me beg for things. Since they paid me for chores if I wanted a toy or comic etc and they didn't feel like buying it for me they'd say "buy it yourself".

Not that you were "hanging around" with me, but you're less than 10 years older than me. Though I do go by the Jack Benny method of age (I'm 39!) we're actually likely only 6 or so years apart.
Started hanging around last Saturday.
