Jeez, that guy (or girl) is lost. One more response and then I'm done. I'm the Scary DBA, not the Saintly DBA.

If it is the post I am thinking of then yes, they are pretty green. Seem eager to learn though. πŸ™‚

if it's the thread I'm thinking of, they're a regular here and don't change. There's a reason I'm not involving myself further.

Yeah, I'm done on that one. I mean seriously. We're way past leading this horse to water.

I'm going to take a moment and thank you all yet again for help that you didn't know you just provided.

I just spent about 45 minutes writing out a post to ask for assistance .....

.....it answered the entire design dilemma by basically forcing me into the other option I had.

You're definitely not alone in this experience. When I got into this business, long before online forums were even dreamt of, a training session instructor told us about the magic cubicle effect. He said we would sooner or later find ourselves going with a problem to the cubicle of a senior technician who would patiently listen while we described, then explained, then solved our dilemma without his saying more than "you're welcome".

    Very, very true.

I've been threatening for years to redo my home office with at least one full wall of whiteboard paint. I've been known to be spotted talking to myself and a whiteboard while working my way through a fairly complex problem. At home, there's no one to laugh at me while I do so. 😎

That is an awesome idea! I didn't know they made whiteboard paint!

It's called "IdeaPaint" (at least the stuff I can get locally is). Works pretty well!

Sounds cool, but didn't work well for us in practice at work. After a ton of coats, it still didn't erase at all really. If you're serious, I can get the brand and process that they used for it, but I would definatley do a small area somewhere inconspicuous first to make sure the real thing was going to work the way you want it to before going full bore on a reaonably sized wall area. We were out all the money spent and then they had to paint over it again and install a real whiteboard.

Hm - I'd love to know which brand it was, since the stuff I've used (albeit on fairly small areas) seemed to work fine. If you can spare the time to dig the info up, that would be useful.

I should clarify that there is every possibility that we ended up with an inferior product, picked the wrong brand, or missed an important step in the process (although facilities was careful on all three points, no one is infallible). Glad it worked for you, it was/is an incredibly cool concept!

  • Topic Change. But Steve, you can delete this post if it is against any rules of the forum. I know that some of the people hanging around here is looking to find jobs and that is why I put it here. But feel free to delete this.

If anyone is interested in going to Ireland and work for 80K Euros, let me know. I have a recruiter who has been trying to get me to go there. It is a Sr DBA position. I do not have any other details. I was not interested so I told him no.

There is also another position in Panama for 90 K US for the position of DB Manager. I have a feeling that both the jobs are in Sports betting industry.

I would go, if I wasn't certain that my wife would kill me.

What does your wife do? Maybe she can get a job in the area and you can both go!

She has no interest in relocating to beautiful Ireland? Too bad.

Out of curiosity, what kind of chemistry?

Why bother if he is making 3x the money. She wouldn't need to work anymore.
