The last time I spelled it properly, DUKW, people were confused.

You are flying all the way to Boston from NZ? Thats a pretty long flight you will be in.. 🙂About 40 minutes short of 24 hours travelling time, yes.
I didn't see you presenting on the schedule. Did I miss something?
And, now...you did

I'm on at 1:15 - at the same time as Andy Leonard, Andrew Kelly, and Allen White. I hope someone turns up!
I may go to that one. I think it is between yours and plan reuse.

Um - but now the event is full.Just checked with the organizers and SQLSat71 is not full per se - at least the registration cap hasn't been reached yet. Apparently the 'event is full!' email and tweets were meant to encourage people who had registered but weren't going to attend to do the right thing.
Oh, excellent. Sorry if I discouraged anyone, I was just going by the email.

Regarding the #sqlhelp thing, I guess it is sufficient to just add that hash tag to your tweet so that it can be picked up by others?Otherwise it's quite silly that I gave someone help when (almost) no-one can read it 🙂
That's a yes to your #sqlhelp question, Koen. Save the search, and you can jump back to it at any time.
OK, thanks for the confirmation.
Apparently tweets from new users are not directly indexed, so it's possible that some tweets are missing in searches...

Since we're paying the facility per person, we have to try to keep our attendance at 325 or we'll owe more money. It's a dance to get enough people committed without scaring people off.I can imagine - and I don't envy you, Adam, and Mike the task of arranging something like this - must be very time-consuming and nerve-wracking!
It actually hasn't been that bad. Since we were very lucky in our funding, we had enough cash so we got the facilities that we really don't have to do anything for. No set up beyond some signage. No tear down. They supply breakfast & lunch, we don't have to manage it again... it's going to be much easier than last time. Main work is around logistics for the speakers & vendors. The speaker dinner & duck tour should be a blast.
I'm not going to make the duck tour, but I am planning on getting into Boston somehow for the dinner. I hate driving in any city and Boston is always the worst. Any recommendations for parking?

Right! Even riding in a cab is scary in Boston.
But they have some of the best restaurants - especially for Italian. I'm surprised everyone there is not overweight!

I suppose depending on where you're going you could always park at Riverside and take the Green Line in. Kind of slow though.

On the sidewalk or two lanes from the curb, like everyone else...
Boston: The only city I've ever seen where the drivers daily play 'Invent a Lane'...
Did they EVER finish the Big Dig?
Never stop learning, even if it hurts. Ego bruises are practically mandatory as you learn unless you've never risked enough to make a mistake.

While I agree that Boston drivers are likely worse than any other city I've driven in, and I've driven in many, I've also seen "Invent a Lane" played in most of those cities and in much of the surrounding areas as well.
Did they EVER finish the Big Dig?
Oh yeah, a few years ago and the results are wonderful.

Ah, so nice to know that Boston has retained the title of "Worst City to Drive In". My dad went to MIT in the early 60s and when he commented to his landlady that people didn't seem to obey the traffic lines, her reply was "Lines? Lines are for the birds."
