Oh, hey, completely non-SQL related link:If you like superheroes, you will like "Grayson" (They created this trailer with an 18,000 dollar budget).
Makes me miss film making. I love getting guerilla shots. You should see Sgt. Kabukiman. I was responsible for a lot fo the second unit shots in that film. We went around NYC hopping out of the van, dropping the tripod, rip of four shots & run.
You used to work with Troma Pictures? Awesome!
One movie. From pre-prod to post-prod. It was fun, if insanely hard work.

Gail, I think I may have inherited your business users.
If you want to know what's happening, keep watch on CNN, you might hear a small blurb about a maniac who figured out to give 400 people a wedgie simultaneously.
Never stop learning, even if it hurts. Ego bruises are practically mandatory as you learn unless you've never risked enough to make a mistake.

I'm going to be on CNN?!?!?
(A slight modification to office chairs, involving a spring-loaded paperclip-hook, patent not-even-applied-for, will do the trick nicely. Never tried 400 at a time before, but ... oh wait ... is there a statute of limitations on this kind of thing?)

Could you inherit the manager too please?
I'm now completely prohibited from doing any work for them if not sitting at my desk on-site. That new rule appeared last week when I asked if I could go home early (was coming down with all the early symptoms of flu) and catch up the hours later in the week. Answer: No.

I'm going to assume that, even with that rule, you're probably also expected to be on-call, and to fix problems remotely if they come up. Right?

I'm probably expected to, but I won't (not there as DBA). Hours worked offsite won't be paid, therefore I see no reason to work them.

Darn. I was hoping they'd gone past irrational straight into psychotic. Would be more fun that way.
Get well soon (flu thing), and definitely consider that move you mentioned a while back. Change of environment alone will probably help.

I hope they all get your flu.

Exactly right. And no going in on off-hours unless agreed to at least 24 to 48 hours in advance, for time and a half or double time depending on what hours.

You are flying all the way to Boston from NZ? Thats a pretty long flight you will be in.. 🙂About 40 minutes short of 24 hours travelling time, yes.
I didn't see you presenting on the schedule. Did I miss something?
And, now...you did

I'm on at 1:15 - at the same time as Andy Leonard, Andrew Kelly, and Allen White. I hope someone turns up!

Um - but now the event is full. I'm sure there will be plenty that will come to see the session. Hopefully you can blog about it for us less fortunate. 🙂

Yes, I'll definitely do that. There is a standby list I think - some people are bound to drop out for one reason or another.

This particular piece of advice, which doesn't have a whole lot to do with the OPs problem (other than the bit about shrinking the files after doing something that is unrelated to the issue). It's called 'plug your own blog, no matter how tangentially relevant it is, take every opportunity to promote yourself, any form of exposure is good!'
Sorry, is the cynical side showing again?
After reading that thread, I want cookies. Thanks a lot, Brandie.
