I know Steve has removed a couple of threads that people started solely to promote their blogsOK, so... report this post as well!
I'm so happy to have solved this issue that I couldn't help but posting it on my blog:

Except you're a regular contributor to the site and you're sole goal isn't to self-promote regardless of all other matters.
That's kinda different. And you didn't start The Thread for that purpose.

I'm not talking about a post when an existing thread, we've all done that either to answer an issue, to ask comments or just (like this thread) because people might be interested.
I'm talking about the case where someone starts a new thread solely to say "Hey everyone, I wrote an awesome blog post on XYZ, go read it!!!!!"

Hell, no! I would miss at least a couple of good laughs a day!!
BTW, I think you can report a single post. At least, there's a "report" button on top of each post.

*sigh* I know I'm a little short tempered due to lingering jetlag ...I know the feeling (done the jetlag thing several times).
It was also difficult for me transitioning from Chris' comment on Lingerie to the word lingering. You guys bounce topics too fast.
At the price of definitely getting myself in trouble (and with someone who owns swords, no less), are you now implying that Gail's problem is too much lingerie???
Edit: And now I have a stuck mental picture of a gila monster in slinky bedroomwear ... Yeah, yeah, I'm definitely a lost cause.
And with your significant other also reading this thread - hmmm...
I don't know which is sadder... that I chased him down... or that such comments don't faze me. 😀
But then again, after 20+ years, I guess I've gotten used to/inured to/armored against these types of comments.
"Used to"?? Hah!!! More like they're why you chased me down in the first place! (It sure wasn't my vast wealth or incredibly singing voice that caused that!) :hehe:
ssssshhhhhhhh! You weren't supposed to mention that! That makes it even more sad!
But yes, I did chase and hunt down and I haven't regretted a moment. (Although my brain cell count keeps going down slightly with every pun... hmmm...)

It's the Attack of the Acronyms!
Two years ago, we implemented a new process that uses the acronym "RI". I've been working on that process ever since. I've gotten so ingrained in it, that when a developer asked me how the Truncate Table command would work with RI, I spent two minutes trying to figure out what heck he was talking about. Our process doesn't care about T-SQL commands.
<headdesk>.
GAH. I hate that my first thought was process related, not referential integrity related. I am losing my techiness! Someone help me!

To truncate a table in Rhode Island, you first get a chainsaw, then you lock the chairs so no one new can sit down at the table, unless they use the NoLock feature as they sit (and then they deserve what they get, right?). Then you wait for everyone who has a properly locked seat at the table to finish eating and talking and get up. Lock each chair as it is vacated. When all you have left is either empty chairs, or chairs occupied by the NoLock people, you fire up the chainsaw and get to work.
Right?

I had something like that happen years ago. We purchased a module on a telecommunications switch called rt_logger. rt stood for real time. What it did was to stream out the call records to a serial port.
I'm not a programmer but I wrote a program that captured the data and put it into text files on a timed interval. I created an etl proccesses that brought the data into a database called rt (sql sever 7.0) that later turned into a huge datamart. My part of the puzzle was just the ETL. Eventually the serial part was replaced with the ability to transfer call records via ftp as the telco switch matured and had a tcp/ip stack added to it. Later the whole teclo switch was replaced by a different brand and model of equipment.
Business critical applications were built around that database. Many other things were added to it. It became a datawarehouse. The CEO who had purchased the module for the telco switch referred to the whole thing as Rt logger. Even though what the system had become had nothing to do with Rt_logger. To this day I believe, 10 years later that they still call it rt logger. I don't even think they sell the same telco products but the name stuck.

Right?
Close, but in Rhode Island a "Table" is a large hamburger. And you "truncate" it by eating it.
OK, so I'm guessing here, but remember this is the state that calls a milkshake a "cabinet".

We actually have annual contests to see who can guess the most acronyms, and we pass out a list to new hires so they're not completely clueless. Has over 200 on the list.
