Can anyone point me to a delimited split function that works on a varchar(max)? I know that Jeff's DelimitedSplit8K works on up to a varchar(8000), and I seem to recall that there were performance issues going beyond that.

Well, at great risk of embarrassing myself in front of some big names with my initial post on this thread, this is what I've got:

I knew I should've lurked longer. But no, I had to help someone! ๐Ÿ˜›

What's the process for a SQL Server Central execution? Do you highlight him and press F5?

I've got a new splitter I've been working on for the revision of the Tally Table article. It absolutely screams on 8k even compared to the old DelimitedSplit8K. Since it's bad mojo to post code on the thread, I'll send it to you tonight... I could use a little help testing it. ๐Ÿ˜›

Jeff - I would be interested in testing it as well if possible.

If you start going into details, that's when it needs to move to a separate thread.

I said I'd stay out of MasterBlasters thread, and I will. What he doesn't seem to get is that there was a better way to respond to Gus's comment without getting personal, which is what I took offense to and call insulting.

All he had to do was say something like this: That's three possibilities, but couldn't this, that, or another thing have also been a possibilty?

That would have been much better and without any personal attack.

Just a thought if someone else would like to see how he'd take that type of constructive critisism.

Just got around to reading that thread and it really went sideways. It started off fine - but isn't worth the reading after the first few posts.

  • For the execution of Wayne:

    --get spid of code requestor

    sp_whorequestedcodeIntheThread 'Wayne'

--use returned spids to verify the request

    dbcc inputbuffer(61)

    --output

'Wayne definitely requested code on the thread'

    --yup that's the one

    Kill 'Wayne'

just one bad underscore in the name of that sp could change its meaning entirely. ๐Ÿ˜›
