Are the posted questions getting worse?

    Remember, don't feed the trolls.

Indeed. He thinks we hate him, let's not prove him right.

Heh... It's way, way too late for that.

At this point, I'm calling this a troll.

    Remember, don't feed the trolls.

Heh... what? They don't like pork chops? 😉

I told him to stop trolling way back on the first post. And, he's changed his handle again... now it's "CTE".

Yeah and his whole "I like CTE's" crap is just to try to prove the point that we need a moderated site... I'm just done trying to interact with someone like that. It's very hard to believe he's an MVP because he's not acting professionally, he's not demonstrating knowledge of SQL Server, he's not acting as an advocate for the product or the company... Anyway, he's a troll. You guys should stop feeding him.

  • How about the more experienced posters get together for mutual benefit then:

    http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic669857-61-2.aspx

    .

  • Nah.... I'd never get invited.

Seriously, what is to be gained by exclusivity? If you have a complex topic or problem you want to discuss, why not just ask the question? There are forums on strategies, etc.... and if it's interesting quite a few folks might join in.... and if it's not, they'll ignore you anyway. Besides, someone less experienced might come along and learn a lot from following the thread.

That said, I must confess that I often imagine the regulars in here as guys who've built a treehouse... and Gail is the girl who must be allowed in because she can beat all the guys up. 😛

(I say that with the greatest of deference and respect, Gail. Please put the weapons away.)

  • Nor would I get invited. 😛

I am no were near the standard to be invited...

Maybe you cn have a thread and once the discussion is over, open it for people like me so that they can learn.

    -Roy

  • Fine then. Me and Roy will just pack up our CTEs and go home.

  • Instead of this being a club, I like to think of SSC as more like a bar. Come in, set down, have a cold one, and start spouting off if you feel like it. If you have something worth listening to, the regulars might direct a little attention your way while they suck down a cold one. Probably better to just shut up and listen for a while until you get to know everyone. If you really irritate people, be sure to duck the empty pitcher aimed at your head. And just leave Joe Celko alone; he's the one setting in the corner talking to himself about writing code that complies with ANSI SQL standards.

  • Great... you mention Joe Celko and now I've got the title song to Flash Gordon running through my head.

Nah... Me neither... too much ring knocking and not enough of helping others in those type of elitist clubs. I'm packin' pork chops and I never go anywhere without them. Besides, those type of clubs are where you run across people like this...

Got some cold ones? We can look up some old ISO standards while watching some Flash Gordon reruns... 😛

  • Many beers in fridge, we can make a campfire out back with the ISO standards.

By the way, does anyone else here follow the online comic XKCD?

It is the only place where I have EVER seen an SQL joke... and it's a good one!

I saw that one a year or so ago. Little Bobby Tables is my hero.

  • I can't see an exclusive thread or forum really working here. If that's what it would take for someone to feel comfortable here at SSC, maybe this isn't the right place for that person. If I had to liken this place to a bar, for instance, the one on Cheers is the one that comes to mind. We all know each other is some way.

It could be from being a regular on this thread, where we have talked about a lot of different topics. It could be from other threads where we discussed ways of doing things, such as the Bankers Round, or how to create a comma delimited list of values, to what may be wrong with the installation of SQL Server 2005 SP 3 (which, by the way, I was finally able to fix and put to bed).

And we welcome any newcomer that is willing to put aside thier egos and join the party. Of course, there are areas where egos are strong, RBAR solutions for one (right Jeff!). But we understand those things and we continue on.

Feel free to pull up a chair and join in the fun. I understand Flash Gordon is making another appearance!

** Flash, saviour of the universe! **
