Are the posted questions getting worse?

Slight departure from the norm on this thread. One of our own made an absolute killing on a nasty problem. See "mister.magoo"s final code post on the following thread. It's bloody genius at work...

    Well done, Magoo!

    Yes - well done indeed.

Funny. I always thought that Hubbard had written Scientology related books. Looks like this one is focused on other topics.

I read that as: he wasn't always a nut..

He was never a nut, he was a fraud. Scientology was invented as a bet between two SF authors.

Do I smell a religious discrimination here on the Thread? It's not my religion but there are people who believe that stuff.

I've heard the story from people who were there when the bet was made, it is a widely known story. If Steve asks me to delete the comment, I will.

You know... randomly... has anyone thought about getting their SQL Servers tweet accounts? I think that'd be the second good use for tweeting I've seen, the first being some big business announcement stuff. Forces them to de-fluff and get to the meat.

People have suggested that in the past. Not sure that tweeting critical errors to the twitterverse would be a good idea.

I've gotta agree here(my emphasis above). What business case does your SQL servers tweeting supply that don't get with SMS Text, emails or pages?

All kinds of marketing messages. You still need a person that can respond to the other tweeps that might have a question, but remembering to send out tweets, especially for new types of content or engagement chances, can be tedious.

We use a service for SSC that schedules out tweets. Multiple people can then respond to answers, but we do want to schedule things out that we might forget otherwise, like the webinar announcements.

Ahh OK that makes sense. Just like blog posts tweeting:-D

Threadizens not on Twitter might not have heard the word. I just took a job with Red Gate. It's up on the blog.

Absolutely awesome. I didn't believe they could raise the already high collective IQ at RedGate. I was obviously wrong. Well done, Grant!

If I may ask, besides "working from home in pajama kilts" ๐Ÿ˜€ and travelling, what is it that they'll have you doing?

Basically, my job is to supply a geek voice for marketing. I'm to write books, articles, blog entries, do web casts, video, voice, present at user groups and events, anything and everything to help get the word out on what Red Gate tools can do and how you can use them to do more. An advocate. In my spare time I'm supposed to keep my skills up, do a bit of consulting work for them, third tier support, that sort of thing. It should be a lot of fun, if hard work.

Sounds cool. Too bad I can't land a gig like that.

Seriously - that would be an ideal gig. That or running your own consulting firm.

    ...

Bing maps are off then. It's just under 7500km from Johannesburg to Algier (http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=what+is+the+distance+from+Johannesburg+to+Algier)

When using the same tool: London sounds much more reasonable ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Side note: interesting web site...

    Nah nah, Olso.

    http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=Johannesburg+to+Oslo

Girl needs to get her smoke on.

Well, Oslo is off by approx 600km and Gail mentioned NW instead of straight N.

I think we should stop being picky about it (at least I'll do). The story behind most probably is serious enough...

yes indeed serious. Gail, you trying to get on at RedGate too?

Wouldn't mind my own consulting company, but would want 6 - 12 months salary sitting in the bank. I did some consulting many years ago. The company I was working for was a slow pay and it made paying bills very difficult.

Huh, so it is! Where the hell did January go? I think it might have been buried in snow and I missed it.
