Oh, I'm still going to it! (Just not for free.) If you're going to be there, then we'll meet up there. (My mother-in-law lives in Tampa... we're taking the whole week off. Guess where my wife will me while I'm at SQL Rally???)Wayne, My co worker is going to be there. I will ask him to come and meet up with you. He was there for the presentation. He is part of our User groups board. π
Cool... looking forward to it (too bad you couldn't get there also!)

Not sure if I'll make the Rally, but I'll let you know if I can, Wayne. That is looking to be a busy time of year for me, so I'll have to pick and choose where I go.
What do I have to do to twist your arm enough to get you out there?
Maybe I should talk to Grant and get him to have RedGate send both of you! :-D:w00t:

It's more a scheduling thing. Might be in the UK the week before, TechEd the week after. Depending on what happens in Apr and June, I may or may not come. Plus, since it's a larger event, others from RG will be there, so it's not necessarily the best use of my time.
We'll see. I'm not canceling it, just not sure it works out. I'll try to get at least a day down there.

I've got it pretty good at the moment but that position should provide a ton of branding and exposure, so yeah, I'm jealous too. π

Wish I could say the same, as I'm sure my near-constant rants (whining) has implied. Starting to think about alternatives, and thoughts leading in uncomfortable direction.

Uh. Oh. The Katana is being sharpened. Start with the whiffle ball bat instead. Sometimes that can be more effective. π How'd the 'morning' vendor meeting yesterday go in your afternoon?

No, not in that direction

Let's see, a discussion with the business owner revealed that the business requirements were woefully inaccurate. "The user must be able to enter a reference number and have the system calculate the effective date" is very different from "The user must be able to upload a spreadsheet extracted from <client>'s ERP app, the system must calculate the effective dates for all reference numbers and allow the user to download an updated spreadsheet with those dates"
This morning the manager asked for a timeline for development. I told here I was still trying to locate all the code that would need to be modified as there was no documentation of the 'process' and no one knew where all the code was. She thinks for a minute, then asks me for a time estimate and states that I must be able to give her something.
That about sum things up?

North. About 9000km.

My usual estimate for that kind of thing is "less than eternity, but longer than breakfast". By that time, I usually don't care if I offend someone, but it's never actually offended anyone yet if I deliver it correctly.

You could always give her the estimate for how long it will take just to map the processes and say you'll get back with the project timeline when that part is done.

My usual response to that (sad that I have a usual response to that) is "Should take another week to see if we can find the code. If we do, it'll take around X. If we don't, it'll take around 5X as I'll have to rewrite it from scratch and that includes meetings with the client to figure out what it is supposed to do." They don't usually like that answer, but I just reply with "you wanted a time estimate, based on what I have, that's the best I can give you."
