Mail I sent earlier to my PM: "Please arrange a meeting monday morning with the business owner so that we can discuss <stuff>"

5 min later meeting request arrives. For 2pm today (friday)

Except that I'm not on site today and have no intention of going in there.

You didn't specify not today... Of course, if you had asked for one today, you know that wouldn't have been possible.

Silly me. I thought specifying monday morning ruled out any possibility of friday afternoon being considered an acceptable date. I will make sure that I'm more specific in future. :hehe:

I don't know why you thought that PMs could follow directions. They're supposed to give directions. Totally different skill set. @=)

I'm getting the "Permission Denied" error in Google Reader from the RSS feed for this one.

Am I the only one getting these errrors in Google Reader? No one on The Thread is using it?

I'm getting an ASP Runtime error by trying to click on Steve's link.

So... did you decline the meeting request (that you initially requested, albeit for a different date/time) and reiterate Monday morning as the meeting date/time that would be acceptable, as per the initial request you sent?

Yes, and I got a second meeting invite for Monday afternoon. Accepted that cause I just don't feel like fighting any more.

  • To be fair, it's possible that the BU or PM doesn't have any free time Monday morning.

EDIT: I run into that a lot at my workplace.

Unfortunately, a term like "mañana" seems not to be allowed...

I went to Mexiko a while ago and we needed some spare parts. The answer we got for the question "When can we pick it up?" was "Mañana."

So, being a good German representing what you'd expect from a German, we showed up at his desk the next morning 8 o'clock. He stared at us like we're from a different solar system...

We: "We're here to pick up our spare parts."

    Him: "They're not here yet."

We: "But you told us mañana!"

Him: "Correct. But mañana just means 'not today'. Try it again on Monday.". It was Wednesday...

I actually learned a lot during the weeks I spent over there. 😎

Having worked in Mexico city, waiting on a shipment of tools from the U.S. and the clerk who told us just about what you experienced, was in the customs office.

We took the expected action by folding a 20.00 (USD) bill in the palm of my hand and thanked him and shook his hand. He paused for a moment and asked us to return in an hour. Guess what the tools arrived unexpectedly -- hmmm Gotta learn to grease the squeaky wheel to make progress.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

Since we were waiting for the customer (and everbody involved has been aware of it), the idle time got covered by the customer and the place we had to call "home" had a nice pool we didn't really consider thinking about any alternative solution. 😀

But I'll keep your approach in mind if I'll ever be in a similar situation again with less relaxing alternatives. :hehe:

True. Possible. It just means that Monday morning will be a complete waste of time. Maybe I can go in at lunchtime, but that would probably result in the manager yelling at me.

Stories like that always remind me of the Siemens AG fiasco

I'll take credit for that suggestion. The change was made a few months ago.
