Depending in what was being robbed, they change the punishment. They like to make examples... 😀

I would rather suggest skimming the customers' credit cards instead of robbing them. After all, who-ever can afford to buy gold from a vending machine must have a pretty nice credit limit. 😎

There is one vending machine in the Arab emirates that is for Gold. You can use your Credit card to buy gold from the vending machine.
Actually, it's hit the U.S. too. I saw a news clip about it (CNN, I think) being put in a few malls.

It is in a hotel lobby if I am not mistaken. Cameras and normal security is what I believe they have. It is just like any ATM Interestingly, there is not much crime in those countries. (You get caught, you get killed). People do like to live long you know.. 🙂 No one in the right mind want to commit a crime that is equivalent to suicide.. 😀
They still have crime in those countries, they are human after all. While the penalties are pretty high, there are still thieves. They keep catching the incompetent ones, but that doesn't stop people from thieving. Criminals aren't exactly in their right mind, that's the problem with them.
Due to cultural differences, crime statistics are different in the Arab world than they are in the the Western world. Different crimes are counted differently. After all, an honor killing isn't considered a crime, so it rarely gets counted as murder. Do that sort of thing in the Western world and there's a trial for murder. Do it in the Arab world and there's fines to pay. Maybe.
When it comes to crime statistics (of any city, state, or country anywhere), you have to take a look at what's being counted and see if you can find out what isn't being counted in order to get a clear picture of what the actual crime statistics are. Numbers (as any statistician will tell you) can be deceiving.

Agreed! And my mother has a degree in statistics and will be the first to agree with that. 😀

SQLRally: for those voting for the different presentations that can be presented at the SQLRally, my presentation on "Table Variables & Temporary Tables - What you NEED to know!" is on this weeks voting list. (For some odd reason, it's in the "Tips and Tricks" section. Please consider voting for this session.FYI, I see that Dave Ballantyne also has a session that can be voted on this week! (I didn't notice any other Threadizens, but I reserve the right to be ignorant about it! :-P)
Had to put it in a category and was trying to keep the categories similar in size. Will be blogging about the experience.

There was a recent problem with that in Mexico, reporting homicides as accidental deaths or something. Can't find the original article I read, but this one is pretty good: http://www.r-bloggers.com/statistical-analysis-and-visualization-of-the-drug-war-in-mexico/[/url]
