This place rocks... I ask for help and I get tons of help. This is the second time I asked for help here and both the times I was pointed to the right direction. 🙂

I have been noticing that the twitter #sqlhelp tag is over rated. SSC rocks... !!!!!

Very cool, Roy. I think the same thing. I don't ask for help much but when I do, I get some pretty awesome answers usually in less than a day.

My thread has hit 4 pages already with great advices... You all Rock...!!!!!!

OK, now let's see if somebody has a good advice for me too:

    It's a bit tricky, but I'm confident!

Sorry, Gianluca. I've got no suggestions on this one.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

I was getting a bazillion PM's asking for private help. I got tired of replying "Please post it on the forum" so I just let my PM fill up. You can always email me in the strictest of confidence.

    Is your e-mail still valid (Jeff@top_level_private_consulting_at_no_cost.org) ? 😀

Or should I use "the other one"?

Gail, just read this thread. Interesting how the OP couldn't deduce what you were saying from your original answer. I guess the real problem we have isn't illeteracy, but the inability to comprehend what is being said without dumbing it down.

I wondered about that. I essentially repeated myself in the second post, no clarifications, no extra information. Don't understand why that was comprehended and the previous one wasn't.

Actually, if you reread them, the first you gave a specific example where as in the second you didn't. The OP needed to infer something from the first based on that and his experience. The first you actually explained slightly differently without an example.

Still, a bit unsettling if you ask me.

  • And then you have those individuals that won't even ask their DBAs for help because they don't know them personally and are in a different building.

Strange he posted his question on the web. He doesn't know us personally either and we're in a different building, too. (at least there is an extremely high probability 😀 )

lol -- Maybe I should have said that too, just hadn't thought of it. :w00t:

I find the first explanation - with the example - actually more easy to understand than the second one.
