I also want to encourage all you who are PASS members to opt-in to the session voting for SQLRally. See my this post which has a link to opt-in in case you didn't get the email from PASS.And everyone should vote for my sessions, or I will steal your favorite snackage from all the stores in the world and hold it for ransom until you do! Bwahahahahaha.
Seriously, though. Vote on sessions.
Allright. I voted for your session (and for Steve as well). So put the snackage down. Slowly...
🙂

Thanks, but I'm actually somewhat hoping I lose. I think the travel might kill me in May if I get the Rally.

Does anyone know how to directly read an XML file from an internet address in T-SQL? Please respond here... and think about writing a SQL Spackle article on it!

Don't worry. I'm Canadian. I wouldn't shoot anybody. 🙂

For those building delimited strings with
FOR XML PATH(''),TYPE).value('.','varchar(max)')
See this post for a tweak that improves performance by a factor of 6 (on my test data... maybe more for you!)

You live in the South. Aren't you required to own a gun and shoot furriners on sight?

No, I'm in the south but my heart is still way up to the northeast.
There actually is an old law still on the British books that says if I return to my home province I'm to be shot on sight. This dates back to 1755 when the British tried to remove the French from what is now Nova Scotia.
Maybe I do need a gun then, for my own defence. 😛

Anyone interested in reading a short blog post? I'm a little nervous about putting this one up. I'm talking about how heaps are stored and I've made mistakes there in the past.
And while we're on the subject, can I let people read a link on WordPress that hasn't been published?
If not, I'll have to send you the post.
