Are the posted questions getting worse?

Okay. WIT 24 hours of PASS is accepting abstracts for March. I'm assuming this is Pre-Rally 24 hours of PASS (haven't had a chance to double-check the dates). So, have any of the women reading the Thread applied?

I've never done the video conference stuff before. I'm debating whether I should put my toe in the water or jump back to avoid the sharks.

I've seen Jaws. I know what happens to the unwary.

Yes, send one in. Having more women do this will inspire others, and I think it's a great idea. You can easily do the video stuff, though I'd honestly try to get someone to sit in the room with you for feedback when you present.

I think they may just be looking for confirmation that they're going in the right direction in which case they may accept your last comment.

EDIT: I left a comment with some suggestions on how to proceed, maybe that'll help. I know a project the size the OP is suggesting would have left me feeling overwhelmed and not knowing how to begin, at least years ago when I was starting out. That's a lot of databases to be implementing all at once, even though they're not very large.

Today is my last working day for this year. There fore I want to wish everyone a very happy and prosperous new year, 2011.

On another note, I have been noticing for quite some time that the patience level of the forum regulars has gone down couple of notches. There are quite a few snappy comments even for a smallest mistake from the poster who is asking for help. Sometimes when I read the threads I feel a bit shocked. This was not how it was when I first joined SSC. Something is not quite right here. I think we should examine ourselves before we make SSC into a place where the Posters feel not welcome. Maybe we could all tone down our responses.

I know that this might make some people unhappy... But thats how I feel.

A happy new year to yourself as well!

And yes, maybe some reflection is needed, but at least most of us are not 'joe celko'-ing through the forums. πŸ™‚

What if it was only 50 databases, would you stamp your approval for that?

I think the topic is well covered by several reinforcements.

I didn't get one either. Rhinos must not be that attractive to her.

For whatever odd reason, this brought to mind an old joke from a Visa commercial.

How do you keep a rhino from charging?

    Give him an American Express.

The joke is stupid, yes, but it still brings a smile to my face after all these years.

  • I've been busy lately and just caught up on the thread. Happy Holidays to everyone. I hope you all have a happy new year!

I also responded to that thread on spliting the 100 instances. I just went through something similar. It wasn't quite 100 instances but it has kept me busy for a while. The best answer given in that thread was that it DEPENDS! Also I liked Brandie's answer and explanation on the resources.

Also I've been watching the MCM videos that sqlskill put out. Lot's of excellent information! That to me was the best christmas present I could have received. I don't think I'll prepare to take the exam but I will use the videos to step up my own game.

Now, to catch up on a week's worth of backlog...

In regards to the MCM videos, Brent Ozar put out a blog about them and the depth of knowledge in them. Basically they are a nice resource but not enough info for the exams.

  • Hey guys. Blogging/articles and the like are relatively new to me, so I'd like your educated opinions on how I should look at this:

    http://balapalani.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

It's roughly a copy/paste of the second half of my (1) article. Now, I'm torn. On the one side I would love to see those definitions more clearly defined throughout the industry. At the same time, g'damn. A straight up copy/paste? Really? He does link back to here at SSC, however.

So, I'll throw up my newbie flag here and ask for some advice.
