Seriously is there any place we can complain about this guy and his "advice quality"? I really don't like being represented by that guy as an mvp.
March 4, 2009 at 1:29 pm
Gail, Jeff & Steve are the three MVP's I know that haunt this thread. After I posted to the blog I had a different MVP send me a direct message via twitter regarding it. I sent him the guy's web site.
I don't know if they have a method of reporting on this guy or not.

The items I did find suspect were from reading his blog, in particular a list of SQL query performance tips with no explanation as to why any of them should be used.
I just noticed something very concerning.

Yup, and after what I just found, I'm going to. Just need to gather some more evidence first.

I've been running a loop of "I love living in the city" by the Fear in my head for days now, so, I'd almost welcome the Star Wars theme, even the 70's disco version.Have you ever heard the version of the Imperial March done by Metallica? If not, see if you can locate it. It's a very nice take on the theme, and I had a portion of it as a cell phone ring for a while.
Here's a youtube link for it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iKhzqLsfAM

Right. Now there really is something to report. He lifted that list. Go here and read through this:
http://www.sql-server-performance.com/tips/t_sql_where_p1.aspx
I found the tip that upset me on page 5. I'm not sure it's right, but at least there's a full explanation.
I think our buddy plagiarized that post, badly.

It looks like it was all pulled from Brad Magehee. I reported it to him via Twitter. No response yet.

No youtube at work. Gets the big red hand... then I have to go clean my IP address out of the database again so I don't end up on reports.... kidding

I doubt Brad wrote all of those. He knows better. SQL_Performance allows user submissions (or at least used to)
But at 2003, this looks like the earliest source.

TITLE: Lobachevsky
Lyrics
Who made me the genius I am today
The mathematician that others all quote
Who's the professor that made me that way
The greatest that ever got chalk on his coat
One man deserves the credit
One man deserves the blame
And Nicolai Ivanovich Lobachevsky is his name, hi!
Nicolai Ivanovich Lobache-
I am never forget the day I first meet the great Lobachevsky. In one word he told me secret of success in mathematics. Plagiarize!
Plagiarize
Let no one else's work evade your eyes
Remember why the good Lord made your eyes
So don't shade your eyes
But plagiarize, plagiarize, plagiarize
Only be sure always to call it please "research"
There's more if anyone wants to see it all.

Bob, I've had that song in my head ever since it was brought up that Mangle was allegedly doing so.
I also have to admit I've had a long-term goal of posting a cover of that song online and claiming it for my own... 🙂

Great minds think alike. I'm just happy that I'm not the only person on earth who might remember that song. 😀

I spoke with Brad via twitter. Those are old & out of date. They haven't been maintained. Doesn't matter, our friend didn't even do a good job of copying & pasting. He reversed things that Brad had posted, such as the order in the WHERE clause does not matter was transcribed as DOES matter.
