Hey guys, I don't see any threadizens on the list of submissions to SQLRally yet! What's taking y'all so long. There isn't any of you that shouldn't submit. Here's the link, http://www.sqlpass.org/sqlrally/2011/SubmitToSpeak.aspxEdit: had wrapped the link in a code block instead of url. Doh
I might still submit. I'm pretty focused on the precon so I'm not sure I want to try to prep an eighth hour of material. Heck, I'm not sure I've got another hour of material in me.
Don't you get a session during Thur/Fri already as a pre-con guy?
I might submit. Trying to decide if I can go, and then if this will impact TechEd.
No, they changed the rules on that.
I prefer to say we clarified the rules on that. In keeping with the community theme of the event we wanted the community to pick all the sessions. Although the pre-con guys don't have to be in the Summit Showcase category.
Still submit and Steve I hope you submit too, and can make otherwise it will be quite a while until I see you I think.
My SQLSaturday plans for the first half of the year are Tampa, New England, and maybe Austin (not sure I can afford the family vacation we had planned around this one) oh, and Austin still isn't on the schedule yet.

I still haven't seen any valid excuses...Travel money, hotel money, earn money... I'd love to make the trip from Detroit to Florida this time of year but I just can't dedicate the money or the time especially since I paid my own way for PASS. 😉
First genuine excuse(s) so far...

SQL Myths Debunked / ReBunked webcast link as requested.Anytime a webinar is "sponsored" by a company, there's twenty minutes of advertising at the end.
Didn't you know that? I knew going in that it would be there.
Nope, I was fully aware of that, don't mind it at all. I just think he didn't show how the myths were 're-bunked' at all, especially as 'best practices', but instead used the opportunity to catch people's interest, and then proved...well, nothing. Ended up saying that the myths were wrong, and "It Depends" because sometimes you might be forced into using them anyway, and if you do it right, it can still work.
Not quite as catchy a title.
Especially loved his slide on AWE. Not going to specifically show you which myths were debunked or re-bunked, but they were, 'cause I said so.

We knew going in that he wouldn't really be debunking the debunking of the myths. But it's a shame that he tried to stand by that approach. I'd have opened up with, "Well of course these are bad practices, but let's talk about the edge cases where they're useful and how best to deal with them." Ah well.

Yeah, I'm still not sure why we needed the picture of Homerpalooza. I couldn't quite grasp his explanation of that one.
EDIT: Not to mention that use of that picture was blatant copyright infringement. Bad enough people do this sort of thing for user meetings & SQL Saturdays that don't get recorded, but to do it for a commercially sponsored webinar? And Idera had no issues with this?
I suppose Matt G. and Fox have better things to do than chase after a DBA for a few bucks he doesn't have, but still, that's a line better left uncrossed just in case.

That almost happened to us (Memphis Dot Net UG) one night. We moved to a new location shortly after that.

No need for an excuse. It isn't the highlight of everyone's year, and unless you want the exposure to speak/attend, not sure anyone needs a reason.
I may or may not. @SQLAndy is bugging me to submit. I may, but it's a busy time. Got TechEd, potential other events coming as well, so not sure I want to be in a crazy travel time. Plus for me it's during the week travel, which can be a bigger impact on my life as my wife travels.

Well, they will, but they'll break fences and stuff, which I then need to fix.

I understand both the fact that's it's not a highlight and, especially, the travel part. I just want to encourage everyone to give it a shot as they are all qualified, IMO. Plus it's another chance to meet/see people.
At least Grant and Wayne will be there.
On a side note, I had my first real test to figure out what put me in the hospital a couple of weeks ago, an EGD to check my digestive system. Nothing major wrong there, just gastritis, so we've eliminated one thing.

Isn't that the one where you have to go through the lounge with topless scantily clad ladies to get to the conference room?
