To all the Threadizens that have presented - how have you incorporated this public speaking into your resume? Examples would be great!Oooh, good question. I haven't. I have listed my books & MVP status in a section I called "Other Interests and Qualifications"
I used to have this in mine. A section with books/magazine articles, speaking. Always got me a comment in an interview.

We usually find that some columns are best frozen, some always updated with current value, and some with both a frozen and a current column meets most of the needs and is easily understood by the business. So it depends.....

I've found this to be a good technique in many areas. Too often I find that when reports change too often, I end up holding hands instead of writing code.

For any that might be interested in an opportunity to heckle a threadizen, check this out[/url].The 744 pixel wide image doesn't really fit well unscaled in a 670 pixel wide slot.
I know. That is a pain of the wordpress plugin. I scaled it down to 670 and then published it. Lo and behold the published version jumps to 744 again.
What plugin are you using? When I'm putting images in my WordPress, I scale them to the size I want and WordPress offers additional scaling. Are you using WordPress to upload or are you directing it to a separately uploaded image?
I can provide a link to one of the blogs where I use images if you'd like.
Using wordpress to upload directly. The scale feature in wordpress is what I used to resize the image. After resizing and the image looking right in the preview it ballooned up when I published the article.
Ah, I see. I have a tendency to scale the image to exactly what I want before uploading and don't use the scaling feature. Good to know it is a little wonky.

I'd like to switch the ratings myself. Though I'd like a couple of axis along which to rate things. They would all be a simple +1, -1 that you could pick, or maybe a -2, -1, +1, +2.
However I'd like to know if you thought it was
not very technical ..... lots of code
good advice ..... bad advice
needs work .... well written
Now if I could just get a developer interested....

For the data warehouse - are you implying slowly changing dimensions?Although the 3 tables wouldn't seem necessary.
There are no really good standards for a versioned DW or even a versioned DB. Lots of people have lots of suggestions, but few have any decent solutions.
It depends somewhat on what the users need and expect.
And if you get too complicated, will the users even understand how to use it properly?
We're actually masking the DW with Business Objects Universes, so the users only have access to the data they need and not all the other stuff. Not only does it help with privacy laws, but this method allows for aliases and simplification without losing the flexibility IT needs the warehouse to have.
If it were up to our users, they'd prefer one gigantic flat excel file. With all the data correct, naturally. Meaning, we have to read their minds and figure out if it's current or specific state data they're looking for. <headdesk>

I had the same problem. I don't even know what the meeting's about because I couldn't read it.
Doesn't make much difference to me what the meeting is about since we hold our meeting on the same night. 🙁

Even after googling this, I'm still not sure if this is good or bad...
Bad. Karthik aka our PhD candidate. Famous for lots of really vague, unresearched questions, many of them totally off topic.
OMG...I almost had to call the squad, I started laughing so hard I choked on my food... you googled Karthik, that's like a recursive search...:w00t:

Different time though Alvin, just pull up the meetingplace at 8:30 when Wayne starts, and have your group dial into Vegas. BTW, you guys don't do livemeeting too, do you? Our CBusPass overlaps somewhat, but I could maybe catch some of that, some of Memphis, then move to Vegas all in the same night.

We only deal with operational data, so perspectives on the cubes are good enough to keep things useable.
1 gigantic Excel file, old concept that just doesn't die.
Mind reading - some users are old enough that when I ask them for the envelope, they make the connection.

Nah, I was downsized before everyone quit. Did have CFO leave once just before a bankruptcy, so I look at that as a sign...
