To all the Threadizens that have presented - how have you incorporated this public speaking into your resume? Examples would be great! My resume is put together as a marketing piece. I have a summary of the "top points" at the top, and it includes items like "Published author on an SQL DBA professionals site", with the URLs for my articles here, and "Presenter at SQL DBA professional group" and the topics and dates covered.
Which reminds me. Jack, I work in Orlando now. Let me know if you want me to present anything to your group again this winter. Was fun doing that last year.
Definitely interested in having you come and speak. FYI, there will be 2 groups in the Orlando area starting in January. OPASS which will be meeting in Lake Mary (about 10 minutes Northeast of the previous location) and MagicPASS which will be meeting in Celebration. Kendal Van Dyke is leading the new group. We are both meeting the week of January 17 with Kevin Kline as the featured speaker. MagicPASS will be meeting on Wednesday the 19th and OPASS will meet either Tuesday or Thursday (we still haven't worked that out). After January we both will be looking for speakers.

Heeeelp!!! Is any of you familiar with replication?http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic1028498-291-1.aspx
One of our contractors installed an application that relies on merge replication and now that performance is ugly, they called me to fix it.
And I know nothing about replication...
Just stuck the link out on twitter using the #sqlhelp hash tag. Hopefully someone will get to it. I know at least one replication expert on twitter.

For the data warehouse - are you implying slowly changing dimensions?Although the 3 tables wouldn't seem necessary.
There are no really good standards for a versioned DW or even a versioned DB. Lots of people have lots of suggestions, but few have any decent solutions.
It depends somewhat on what the users need and expect.
And if you get too complicated, will the users even understand how to use it properly?
Currency always seems to bring an interesting wrinkle into things.
Especially when you have a lot of different ones being used that change daily.
We usually find that some columns are best frozen, some always updated with current value, and some with both a frozen and a current column meets most of the needs and is easily understood by the business.
So it depends.....

Great! Thank you, Jack.
They're rolling out this new project and they didn't take performance tests before.
I was asked to stop everything I was doing to take a look at this mess. Grrrrr!!!!!

I'm still not sure about the number of records this might returned.Who knows? Unless I'm missing something, it's a cross join between T2 and T3 (there's no limitation between those tables) and a double-triangular join between T1 and T2 and T1 and T3.
Just for giggles - if you were to do with a 100-row tally table aliased 3 times, you end up with something in the ball park os 1.7M rows. Do it for 1000 rows, you get something like 167M rows. Even if you have a different data distirbution, that query is a ticking timebomb.
So much for n-ary expressions.

Yes - lots of them too. Eat until you feel you can eat no more. Just remember the pizza and doughnuts are calorie free!!

I know. That is a pain of the wordpress plugin. I scaled it down to 670 and then published it. Lo and behold the published version jumps to 744 again.

You know there's a problem when...In the last 2 weeks there have been three resignations at current client:
The senior developer (leaving only 2 permanent developers)
The Chief Enterprise Architect
The CIO
Hmmm - you are talking about the Client right, not my employer?
Same thing is occurring at my place - spread out over a month.

I had the same problem. I don't even know what the meeting's about because I couldn't read it.
Oh, you can just right-click on the image and select "look at the image on its own" on the menu (not sure of the exact phrasing - my browser menus aren't in English - but that's what it means). Then you will get the whole image.
Fixed now. I scaled it down further (590 pixel wide) and it balloons up to the right size.

What plugin are you using? When I'm putting images in my WordPress, I scale them to the size I want and WordPress offers additional scaling. Are you using WordPress to upload or are you directing it to a separately uploaded image?
I can provide a link to one of the blogs where I use images if you'd like.

Using wordpress to upload directly. The scale feature in wordpress is what I used to resize the image. After resizing and the image looking right in the preview it ballooned up when I published the article.
