Just got me a Dev copy of R2 and am uninstalling the regular 2k8 eval copy from my laptop now. Gonna play, gonna play.I'm debating on getting a Dev copy of regular 2k8 too. Anyone know if I can have both without them hating each other the way 2k5 Express tends to cause problems for 2k5 other editions? Or has anyone actually tried that yet?
I'm running SQL 2008 and SQL 2008 R2 (developer edition both) on my desktop. R2 replaces 2008's management studio and BoL, but no problems on the DB engine.
I would recommend that you install them in release order (2008 first, then 2008 R2)

And if things don't work like I would expect, in RDP to a dev box :Whistling:

I wouldn't say that. There's still a week of voting and the down votes make changes happen quick. Someone can vote up another guy and vote me down and the switch is 2 points in that direction. This one, really doesn't matter, but I'm with Hudson, I like winning, it's better than losing.
It looks like they've removed the ability to down-vote, making a much better competition. I don't see any articles that warrant a negative vote.
:w00t: I'm now second overall, 4 points short of the leader. Vote! Vote! (please?)

We started preping SQL2008 but it didn't got rolled out before R2.
Only after R2 projects started requesting for SQL2008 .... R2 (mainly for Reportin Server).
So we decided not to roll out SQL2008 but prep R2 and only roll that one.
Since I still don't have a 64-bit laptop, I don't run VMs on it.
Maybe with the next wave of laptop replacements .... end 2011

I think that's my fault. I beat them up a bit publicly on twitter. But now I'm behind. Still need support people.

I'd have to start doing Chicago style voting to get you any more points now.

I'm not suggesting anyone to cheat, but the voting system relies on browser cookies to determine if a vote was placed... :Whistling:

and I have 2 computers and 3 VMs. No, I haven't, it would be unethical.

Just sent out a beg on twitter too. I think we can put you over the top if we keep pushing. I'd just like to win my category but this David Dye guy (never heard of him before and he's an MVP) is doing really well.

I'm giving up on the internals category. Bob Pusateri's post on locked pages is miles ahead but unless there's a major reversal, the indexing and T-SQL categories are looking good
Either the beg here or the pleading on Twitter worked. 90 points, minor lead over Jen Stirrup who's at 82
One question though, can I win anything since I won't be at PASS?

Check again. You're 1 point short of David, 1 point short of #5 on the top contributor list and 1 point short of #5 on the top posts (all categories) list.

Yeah, you just can't get any free drinks or bask in the accolade of a bunch of drunk geeks.... actually it almost sounds like you're better off.
Just checked the rules, nothing in them says you have to be at PASS to win, so you're good.
