  • Tail of Tropical Storm Tomas hit Curacao (My island) leaving 3 people dead, lots material damage, 280 mm of rain and lightning. We are expecting more rain tonight. No power at home. Our house got hit by lightning yesterday night. It is a mess here now.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • Thanks for the wishes. So far it is ok. We are doing Ok. But if it rains tonight like it yesterday night, then we are all in deep trouble. Half the island does not have power. We can live without power but if water supply falls out, we are a goner.

Sad to hear of the deaths and damage, but glad to know you are okay. Hope this doesn't alter your plans to make the Summit.

For those who don't know, several of our locals are up for an award at SQLServerPedia for blog posts done over the last year. Gail is in three different categories and looks good to win two of them. I'm in two and actually possibly a contender in one. Please support us, or whoever you think is better, and go vote.

Big thank you to everyone here who has voted, I'm now second overall (for a little while anyway) :w00t: 😎 :w00t:

Hey - how about throwing some votes my way too!!!

    I did. (for all 3)

Yeeouch. Glad you and yours are okay. Hope the power comes back soon and there isn't much more rain headed your way. Are electrical systems in your house damaged by the lightning? Hope it's easy to fix if it is. Best wishes to you and yours and everyone else down there getting rained on by Tomas.

This should not alter any of my plans. I should be able to get to the summit without any problem.

Fill up at least a bathtub with water. If you have reasonably clean water, and some chlorine bleach (Clorox or something similar), you can drink safely. Of course, alcohol will sterilize water too, but chlorine will clean more water faster and safer. Get the instructions for both before power goes out. (too much chlorine will kill you faster than the bacteria in the water, so the instructions are important.)

Disaster preparation isn't just for datacenters.
