Not sure that's true. AFAIK, the Kindles (1, 2, 3) and the Nook all use the same e-ink technology. The contrast changed slightly and they can get more grayscale, but the same display.
Yep, they use the same E-Ink technology. The color sreen for book covers and navigation look cool, but I have to admit, I'm not really a fan of virtual keyboards. The Google Phone I have (My Touch from T-Mobile) has one and while I love the smart phone capabilities, I find the virtual keyboard is a bit of a pain. The Nook's vitural keyboard might be just fine as it looks like it is bigger than the one on my smart phone.
Wonder how it does on battery life with that color screen though. Just need the tech to advance a bit more so the E-Ink can use color. π

They have color e-ink now, it just isn't in commercial devices yet. There was a Sci-Am article about it a year or so ago.

Neato! Guess I'll be replacing my Kindle when that comes out. That is one of the draw backs of the Kindle, no color. They also need to work on the bookmarking system.

There actually is a newer version of technology, not from e-ink, that has much better refresh, and can do limited colors, but is still in R&D.
The thing that worries me about color is the loss of battery life. Not something I'd like to deal with.
In terms of virtual keyboards, I was really worried when I had the G1, but when I got the Android 1.6 upgrade, I found that I opened the real keyboard less and less. The virtual one takes a little practice, but now I think it's fine.

Well, you could always get one of these.
One side is e-ink like a Kindle, the other is a full color screen like an iPad. If you're reading something on the Kindle-like side and there's an illustration or something you want to see in color, you just flick it over to the other screen and violla! There it is in full color.
It even backfolds so it isn't as wide as when it is fully open.

I saw that, and it is cool, but 3lbs is heavy. Even the Kindle was heavy at times when trying to read. My tablet is probably closer to 4lbs, but it's uncomfortable to use while reading.

Nice , but im somewhat sceptical of their "Green" claims.
Alright so you dont use so much paper , but the extra resources gone into making this must be an imperial ton more.

Direct sun is hard. I usually read with a black background inside, but I switch to black text on white when I'm outside. I can read in the car, or in semi-shaded areas.I took a nook outside for a few minutes, in bright sunlight, black on white, and it was better than inside under flourescent lights, except for when I was turned the right wat to reflect the sun directly into my eyes.
From what I read, the new kindles are better in the sun than the nook.
I don't know anything about the nook, but I've had my Kindle at the beach. It was very easy to read there, in direct sun. If the sun bounces straight off the glass and into your eyes, it hurts and the text is not quite readable at that point.

Holy crap! That is sessy! Very sessy!
Desire. Need. Want.
Of course, it's probably built on some proprietary system that will be rendered obsolete or non-functional about a week after I buy one.

The green value, if there is one, comes not from you getting ebooks, but from 1000s of people doing this. Less paper, less energy, less storage, not to mention less trucking, heating, cooling, etc. That being said, not sure this is the best way to remain green, especially as you have to charge it up.
Doesn't bode well for lots of jobs, and I hope that some level of "bookstore" still remains in the future.

Glad my coffee cup is empty so I didn't spray the monitor :w00t::hehe:
I used something like this a few years back when we listed our house. http://www.grassbgreen.com/Before_After_s/22.htm
Dogs had browned a number of areas, so I spent a few hours "painting" the lawn so we could sell the property.
