... If you got down to the binary, you could totally send a program as Morse Code over a telegraph. What's that, Baud 1 for the unprofessional, maybe 1.5 for a master tapper? π
... only if you leave out the error checking.
Yeah, error checking gets it down to .5 baud at best.
Ooh, maybe that's the way to get Gail a copy of Sanctuary! On one end a morse telegraph setup, computer controlled, reading from a dvd. On Gail's end a cradle modem! It could work!
Surely someone still has a cradle modem lying around? They're only 30 years out of date.

Any of you guys work in healthcare and know where I could find sample claims data online? Don't care if it's x12 spec or just claim header and detail line crap, have a couple ideas I wanted to play with at home, and didn't want to have to create a bunch of fake claims if I could help it.data.gov doesn't have anything, and I can't afford to pay for sample medicare data, that's ridiculously expensive.
looking for something I can use with revenue/cpt/hcpcs/ICD9 dx and procedure codes/billtypes/demographic info on a set of patients/providers.
You know, nothing fancy :-P:hehe:
How about what's on this page: http://com1software.com/c1054.htm
Thanks, that's better than what I've seen elsewhere, so a possibility! Apparently my Google karma is lacking....

You'sa welcome. π
Let me know if you come across some good X12 examples. I'd like to get my hands on a number of 837s for one of my many demos I'm working on.

In complete polar opposition to a recent discussion in The Thread, I just introduced Andy Leonard to another coworker, calling him a rock star. His response:
"Iβm not a rock star; Iβm an over-recognized insomniac who tries to write himself to sleep each night. "
Yeah, right. No matter how much all you guys keep saying you're not geniuses, I'm not buying it.
Thanks again for all the inspiration you give the rest of us regular joe's just by being yourselves. π

Yeah, and he may have something, but it's proprietary format for our production system, not x12. I may play with both, so I'll let you know if I get something, or create new x12 formats.

I guess every day is not like father's day then. π
Somewhere on my to do is an item related to a program to generate sample X12 files. Maybe I can get to it sometimes before Dec 2012. π

While we're on the subject of sample data, anyone know where I can get 300,000+ records of description data with 400-6000 character average ( no, I didn't lose the zero π ) ? I put up a post a while ago but it died the ugly death of the shrug, I dunno...
Could be anything for what I want, car auction descriptions, personal ads, etc. Anything with commonly repeated characters as words (ie: obo is a word in classified ads). Trying to work out an alternate search algorithm but I never seem to get my hands on something that large that's *not* proprietary. The public IMBD was close but that's a tragedy to try to reformat into something usable. I just need to make sure it's open data in case I need to distribute the test harness.
Never stop learning, even if it hurts. Ego bruises are practically mandatory as you learn unless you've never risked enough to make a mistake.

Trey, I think your comments to CELKO might have shut him down... at least temporarily. He was actively bashing folks left and right up until your reply to him. Now he's gone quiet. Maybe he just needs a friend! If he could be a little nicer, he might find it easier to make friends. π
Thanks, but I doubt I shut him down.
The reasons I visit SSC is to interact with other SQL Server people. This forum has many MVP's, well known bloggers, authors and other experts that run circles around me technically, and I've been a SQL Server user/DBA for a long time. I've bought and read a few of the books that some of the authors who participate in the this Forum (as well as this thread) have created/written/produced.
I appreciate the time and effort that all of you give to the community and for the chance I have to interact with you. We live in a marvelous time where you can interact with the people writing the materials we consume. With the exception of Joe Celko I've been more than impressed with the human interactions from you all.
Because Mr Celko has chosen to have a pompous online personality I have chosen to boycott him. It is a shame because ISO standards is an area I'd like to improve on but I refuse to buy his books or even borrow them from a library.

have you tried data.gov? That sounds like something you might be able to find there in the census data or something.

If trolls, no matter how intelligent, could be that easily shut down we wouldn't have needed the term.
