The problem is what he's mapping out in the project plan is actual elapsed time, not time spent on his project. Since neither developer is full time (both consultants) and both have other project commitments, that cause a slight problem.Which is why I'm debugging an SSIS package at 11pm.
Fun - want some help?
Just how much spare time do you have Jason? 😉

What's Sanctuary?
Fun Monsters and Mayhem Sci Fi TV show set in modern day.
In other news relating to my bitching around project management yesterday ... Spent 4 days doing crit fixes on another system, but am still expected to meet the deadlines. Or to put it another way, there are 9 days allotted to do a particular task. That means this task starts on the 21st September and will be completed on the 4th October. Spend 4 days doing something completely different and the task must still be completed on the 4th October.
Not the way I recall project management was supposed to work....
Yikes! Luck with that...

You'll have to bring it. But since I need to burn the wood, blowing it to small pieces isn't that helpful.

That's not entirely true, larger surface area will burn hotter. 😛
I mass produce toothpicks using an axe, don't need no dynamite for that.
In other news, I'm an idiot, school sucks, and consequently I'm going to bed. y'all have a good night.

If you were to use some C4, placed every 16", you'd have perfect firewood!
BTW, what do you burn your wood in? I use the 200-CSS.

Update on the "maverick". Just had discussion with my boss about it. I've been asked to write up an email about what has been going on to "document" issues.Heh... sorry for what I'm about to say but that's a load of freakin' hooie on the part of a boss that poops through feathers. He should write up what you guys met about. No wonder you have a maverick in the chicken coop... he's riding a chicken boss.
My post comes off a little wrong I think. My boss is non-technical and doesn't really understand the details I'm trying to communicate so putting them in writing is the best way to communicate them. I have a pretty good relationship with the boss and my organization is different from anywhere you've worked so we are experiencing some major growing pains from being run as a "family" to being run as a business while still maintaining a family-friendly culture.
I absolutely took it the wrong way. Sorry, Jack. Being a non-technical boss on this type of problem does make it a bit smarter on his part to ask for some help in documenting the incident.
Since I took that wrong, lemme ask you is the maverick right or wrong? Sometimes it takes a maverick to shake up the status quo. In previous jobs, I was the one who was the maverick because I wanted to add document headers to all stored procedures, views, and functions.

Speaking of stirring, new rice cooker coming today. Excited to be able to walk away and let it cook so I can only worry about stirring the pineapple curry my wife loves.Maybe I'm just lucky but I've never even thought of buying a rice cooker. I bring the properly measured water to a rolling boil and throw in a bit of salt to taste. As soon as the rolling boil returns (usually just a couple of seconds after that), I throw in the pre-measured rice, give it a quick stir, cover the pot, and let cook until it returns to a full rolling boil (usually just a minute or so). Then, I turn off the heat and go away for 30 minutes without moving the pan or uncovering it to even just look. When I come back 30-35 minutes later... perfect rice every time.
I tend to struggle a bit, especially as my wife and I like brown rice. Harder to get right, and each time I burn the bottom of the pan I'm annoyed. Probably I multi-task too much when cooking, but that's the nature of life on the ranch.
Had a Japanese girlfriend that had one and it was great. We could leave rice in there for a couple days, have rice anytime and enjoyed it. We had one last year, but my oldest took the pan somewhere and lost it. Plus it didn't do brown rice well. Got a nice Panasonic with fuzzy logic 🙂
A couple days? Without it going bad or sour? Hmmmm... I may have to get one after all. You didn't happen to get it from Amazon did you? 😉

So even though we can demonstrate to him that his approach is slower than another approach or takes more locks or whatever, he just dismisses it as "not invented in my brain."Sounds like mister self-appointed has a longer line of BS than the boss has for a spine. If you folks are constantly proving him wrong, get folks to start keeping a diary on it and then get mister spineless to fire the booger.
In almost nine years they've fired, to my knowledge, five people from IT. And I know that two of them were for stealing. The other three involved HR for... something... not sure what. They don't fire people where I work for something as silly as gross incompetence.
They might if you could prove it. What a pain. Ummm... is the genius one of the folks I met, by any chance?
