I wonder if this is the trigger I noticed this morning. He's usually tactless, but this morning it's like he's trying to be mean, instead of just utterly absorbed professor'ish who's always in theory, which is always perfect.Doubt it. Remember that he's posting like that intentionally, it's not a lack of communication skills. Sometimes I think it has to do with the posting history of the person he's replying to.
Ah, I was unaware of that little factoid.

Mr. Celko does enjoy stretching people's patience and tolerance.
And that, Steve, is quite the understatement!

I would have to disagree. Celko's responses that I've read have almost always been arrogant, pompous, and tactless. I have seen his attitude change once when the OP explained he was dumped into the situation he was in and that he was not a DBA/Database Developer.

I have emailed him before, banned him, removed his account, etc. He comes back periodically, so I'm not sure I can do much good.
I'll ping him about this post.
He is trying for some effect. He has built this reputation as the tough, mean, college professor type, and he sticks to it.
fortunately he rarely posts on these forums.

Maybe he saw the chance for a book sale... π

This is not the resultant reputation he's earning. He has failed the social challenge.

What's Sanctuary?
In other news relating to my bitching around project management yesterday ... Spent 4 days doing crit fixes on another system, but am still expected to meet the deadlines. Or to put it another way, there are 9 days allotted to do a particular task. That means this task starts on the 21st September and will be completed on the 4th October. Spend 4 days doing something completely different and the task must still be completed on the 4th October.
Not the way I recall project management was supposed to work....

Maybe the PM isn't good with MS Project? Show them how to modify the gannt chart.

Oh it's not that. He knows how to use Project.
Doing the work (3 complex, multi-data flow SSIS packages) in 9 days would have been a challenge. Doing it in 5 is just impossible. Not even half way done.

Maybe you should ask him if he Saves the MS Project file after entering changes. π

The problem is what he's mapping out in the project plan is actual elapsed time, not time spent on his project. Since neither developer is full time (both consultants) and both have other project commitments, that cause a slight problem.
Which is why I'm debugging an SSIS package at 11pm.
