You can pay at the door. I'll have Grant standing there intimidating people into giving up $30 or a ticket :-P:w00t:If he's in his kilt you might have people running away from it! :w00t:
That reminds me - I still need to get a kilt
While they are a bit expensive, I'm a big fan of Utilikilt. I tried to get them to sponsor or something but they weren't that interested. A picture from this year's event, taking place just a few blocks away their store, might make a difference for next year.

What was that conversation we all just had about people who know everything?
Every time I see him post, I have to resist the urge to respond with something like " . . . and what high holy horse did you just ride in on?"

Not my thread or expertise but I was tempted to reply, "Please stop posting advice until you have read a book on working with people." Maybe follow it with a link to All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.

Update on the "maverick". Just had discussion with my boss about it. I've been asked to write up an email about what has been going on to "document" issues.Heh... sorry for what I'm about to say but that's a load of freakin' hooie on the part of a boss that poops through feathers. He should write up what you guys met about. No wonder you have a maverick in the chicken coop... he's riding a chicken boss.
My post comes off a little wrong I think. My boss is non-technical and doesn't really understand the details I'm trying to communicate so putting them in writing is the best way to communicate them. I have a pretty good relationship with the boss and my organization is different from anywhere you've worked so we are experiencing some major growing pains from being run as a "family" to being run as a business while still maintaining a family-friendly culture.

IMHO - that is typical from what I have seen. I have seen a few that were nice, but this one is typical.

With as often as we talk about Celko here, maybe the thread could be renamed to something that references him??

Steve, I think this is an issue, and someone really needs to talk to him. If he continues his so-called "online persona," we run the risk of driving people away from SSC, and that does no one any good.
Just my opinion . . .

Interestingly enough, over at SQLTeam Joe replied to someone's post with a request for DDL. No insults, no arrogance, just a standard request for table definitions, etc and the OP basically lost it and swore at him for absolutely no reason.

It annoys me every time I see him say somthing about how Identity keys are no good. Even if you like "natural keys" (and I don't) sometimes there's no other choice. That plus the fact he's always pushing lowest common denominator code makes his "advice" as harmful as his attitude.

I wonder if this is the trigger I noticed this morning. He's usually tactless, but this morning it's like he's trying to be mean, instead of just utterly absorbed professor'ish who's always in theory, which is always perfect.

Doubt it. Remember that he's posting like that intentionally, it's not a lack of communication skills. Sometimes I think it has to do with the posting history of the person he's replying to.
