Just curious if anybody here has ever walked out of an interview...What would be your justifications for doing so?

I've terminated an interview when it was obvious the pay was too low, but just walking out? Unless I was severly insulted or abused in some way, don't think I'd do that.

Curious, did this just happen to you?

Never walked off. Have cut short phone and live interviews when I realized it wasn't a good job and I told the interviewer this wouldn't be a good fit.

Walk out without a good reason? Even a family emergency should get some explanation to the interviewer.

    Very late to this...

One interview (must be 6 or so years ago now), I was interviewing for a SQL dev position at what was then one of out largest ISPs. Part way through (after answering a question on whether one should shrink databases during business hours iirc), one of the interviewers blurted out 'So that's why response is poor when that runs.'

I realised at that point, based on that and earlier questions and reactions that it wasn't an interview, it was free consulting. At that point I picked up my papers, stood up and turned to the lead interviewer "I think I'm done here. Thank you for your time"

Gail has less than 40 points to go to hit 20k points and less than 1000 posts to go for 20k posts. Way to go Gail!

    :w00t:

Should hit that sometime Tuesday at my normal posting rate, 20k posts, that's gonna take a little while longer.

    @steve-2:

Since you need to get two gifts for our 20K gurus, you might find a "buy one, get the next item 50%off" deal somewhere 😀

Just don't make it too obvious... 😉

You might even get a mass discount if you decide to honor the three 10k gurus as well...

And no, I'm not going to continue down to the 4k level. :Whistling:

(On the other hand: I just did pay for a short vacation and got a 7-for-5 deal...) 😀

  • OK, no pork chop launcher, or even ammo, but a small gift to Jeff for his support.

Gail will be harder since she's in South Africa, and a lot "sends" don't quite get there. I'll have to work with RG on something.

Redgate's sent me goodie boxes a couple times (Friends of Redgate) and they seem to arrive just fine. Probably cheaper to ship out of the UK too. Otherwise, tentative plans have me in your part of the world in Feb next year.

Oh my... I'm not sure how to get this big ol' foot out of my mouth for being such a SA comedian about about it all. I got that gift from Steve this morning. I can't say what it is but I'm seriously humbled. Thanks, Steve!

Add this to a very tall list of reasons why I hope you can make it to SQL Saturday #60 in Cleveland.

Very tentative. Let me rather not say more until I'm certain, or I'll end up disappointing people again.

Absolutely understood. I went through the same thing with PASS for a couple of years. I think I was the most disappointed in all that. Didn't get to see a whole lot of people.

Maybe it's just me but I didn't see any obvious signs of irritation on your part. The thread looked like someone who has no clue about what he's doing and you helping/explaining.

New DBA just in way over his head. You showed you usual incredible patience but he's no worse then some of the others out there just as dense that you've helped before. Of course, those would irritate too, sooo... 😛

He thinks sysdatabases is a per database table instead of being the master list. He keeps hoping 'USE x' is going to get the proper results. Meh.

And to the new 20k'ers (past and to be shortly) CONGRATULATIONS!

Oh I was irritated. That it doesn't show is the results of lots of restraint (though the caps and bold text are a hint)

So in other words I am more irritable than usual. 😉

Though given his comments about his history, I don't think so much of a 'new DBA'

I don't mind having to point that out to someone once. Three times?

Am kinda curious about that 'database snapshot' log reuse. I can understand why that can occur (why snapshots can prevent log reuse), but it shouldn't be a long-term thing. Hopefully it was just coincidence that he queried that as a couple snapshots were taken.

Well, I think he's got sporadic training, at best. Well, nevermind, I guess that's obvious.

Okay, denser then the average bear? 🙂 Though occassionally my own brain needs the leash tugged a few times when I'm staring at the wrong part of the code that's failing, so I guess I'm more forgiving about that one. I think I kinda did that last week in the office.

I believe the term 'ya gots me' is appropriate on this one. Though, now that you mentioned it, I'm curious too. 🙂
