Those are good reasons to not have chosen that as a career. Maybe that is part of the reason for everything going under ground these days...Key reasons for putting things underground is so that they will be less likely to be in the way of anything, and less likely that anything will make contact with them. Less likely, but problems can still occur.
Some of those things are zombies, but we know how they behave

Definitely less problems underground. Most electrical stuff is buried in the Denver area, and there are less issues with phone/cable/power because of it, especially in the winter. Still some issues, but not a ton.
I used to climb trees and cut off tops for a job. That was even more dangerous with a powered chainsaw, being 20, 30, 40, 50ft off the ground, and then having a piece of your supporting structure tumbling down. That was not fun.

Alvin agree with you to some extent however the cost of going underground is between 10X and 100X more expensive than above ground poles.
The major reason for underground was, believe it or not, aesthetics, enforced by City / County governing bodies, who had to issue right-of-way permits to the power company for the installation of poles. Now those City / County governing bodies are composed of elected officials -- enough of the voters complaining and ... well you know the outcome.
Jeff - glad to see you changed occupations ... as I did. We both refuted the old saying "To soon old, to late smart'

B) If not A, agree to disagree.
And
C) If you're right, don't gloat.
Much.
Ok...
Gloat as much as you like, in private.
No, come gloat in here! (That way we can all watch. :-D)
Why all the discussion about goats?
Not just goats, "Gloats". Those are fat goats, they get their name from a combination of Bloat and Goat.
Are you saying that Grant is a fat goat? If so I think you should apogolize.
Tom, aren't you in your winter breeding grounds? Don't you have anything more int... nah never mind.
Hey may not have anything more int, but he should at least have a few varchars laying around.
Actually floats are more useful in the sea, and what's lying around is more pleasant to view that the typical varchar.

Yeah, but now you have to worry about the CHUD

Personally I'm more of a sea-sharp kind of guy and VB more than that. Lots of nice things to see there and it makes you feel Included.
