SELECT [No biltong] = 'Absolute, total disaster'
I tried your code. It does not compute.
Msg 257, Level 16, State 3, Line 2
Implicit conversion from data type varchar to varbinary is not allowed. Use the CONVERT Biltong function to run this query.

One does not convert biltong. That's blasphemy (unless you're converting it to powder for use in bread or pasta sauce)

Nothing like being told by testers that your code is wrong, fixing it, having the vendor deploy it, being told again that the code is wrong, not understanding why it's still wrong, going back and forth with the test team for 3 days straight ...
...and then finding out that the vendor didn't re-deploy the fixed code....

Been there, done part of that as a member of a team which installed TV broadcasting stations, been as far up as the top of the tower structure (some 600 ft), but NOT free climbing. By the way, as a installation team member was selected from the IT department in an effort to increase the understand of all members of the TV equipment division with each others jobs and responsibilities.
