Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • My apologies for this, but something occurred to me this morning and this was the only place I could think to tell people that would understand.

I was thinking how nice it would be for someone to create a chartiable organization not affiliated with any government, like Doctors Without Borders, that helps people after disasters or in war-torn areas deal with their data. They'd focus on helping with SSIS, SSAS and SSRS.

Don't you think the world could use a BI NGO?

I think it would be great to have people helping out, though I wonder how it would work for these projects, which are often long term and complex. Not easy to hand over, not as easy, IMHO, as most doctor visits.

Wow. Just ... I don't know what I want to do more. Send you on a one way trip to the moon or wash my skull out with brain bleach.

    My thinking cap. IT HURTS!

Okay, maybe Stefan wasn't joking. But seriously, Steve, take the space out of that acronym and tell me what you see.

It was partly serious with a good punchline.

Good work one and all on the true / false nonsense, its very dispiriting when all you get is grief when you are trying to help.

My favourite part of that thread..

the DataBase Administrator he himself is very confused and coulld not explain logically

More likely "Got annoyed at me for not understanding"

    Sounds quite possible - hadn't considered that...hmmm

His initial post and his comment about the DBA above are why I think he may have gotten the answer he's looking for, but not the answer he needs. Sure, he can now use a Case statement to assign True and False to the bit values, but I think he's taking the response to also mean that 1 is always True and 0 is always False.

Either he'll be lucky and this will turn out to be the case for this particular application or he'll be unlucky and he'll have it backwards. If he discovers that it is the latter, we may very well see him back here again yelling at us for giving him the "wrong" answer.

  • Speaking of the Bit datatype, here's an old one for you:

"There are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand binary, and those who don't."

    🙂

The evil side of me thinks you should post that in the bit thread.
