I played a lot of Civilization. It took a while, but it finally dawned on me that the barbarians weren't my true enemies.

    The developers are.

I get frustrated with it since it seems that I don't get much better at it over time. Maybe I'm just a meat-head, but as many hours as I've played it, I should be an expert now - but I'm not. I've been told that it boils down to who can make the most cities the fastest at the beginning of the game. There seems to be some truth in that, but it's easy to over-extend yourself. :hehe:

Oh... now THAT's funny. If we reflect back on the name of this thread and change just two words in the above... we get...

    😛

That's good! But, just for good measure, let's change one more word:

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

..... Perfect for the game we all call "life". 😛

The game of life is hard to play

    I'm gonna lose it anyway

The losing card I'll someday lay

so this is all I have to say.

Isn't there another song along the lines of "Game of Life"?

  • Alvin is quoting from "Suicide Is Painless", aka the theme from M.A.S.H.

I had to look up the lyrics to confirm it. Oddly I can't make them fit the melody. There seem to be extra lines everywhere.

I always remembered the opening lyrics as follows from the movie, but I haven't watched it in years.

The game of life is hard to play

    Gonna lose it anyway

Suicide is painless... so they say

    Suicide is painless

    It brings on many changes

And I can take or leave it if I please

    Cheery stuff, huh?

Have a great weekend, guys and guy-ettes.

Heh, the XBOX version is a short version.

Yeah. The PC version can easily take (me) a week for a single game

Civ V comes out in 2 weeks (ish).

So if I disappear off the forums in 2 or so weeks time, you know why...

I don't have the time to read many books but that was a good one.

    Title? Author?

    Title: Colossus

    Author: D.F.Jones

Published: May 1966. Hardback, ISBN 0-246-64345-5

    UK Paperback 1968

Film Version: Colossus: The Forbin Project (released 1970?)

Didn't much like that book myself.
