Never read about Collosus. I'm assuming this is the Xmen guy?

I always find time to read. Keeps me sane with a break from this world.

I'm not reading as much as I should, especially technical stuff. Right now in a professional development/leadership groove so I've read Tribes, Crunch Time (reviewed on my blog), and now Visioneering by Andy Stanley. I did manage to read a novel over the holiday weekend and started another. Need to read more, but usually too tired and fall asleep while doing it:doze:

Collosus is an ANCIENT spec-fic book, and the computers in it are a joke today, but when I think about computers becoming self-aware, that's the one that I always go back to.

For me it is When Harlie was One by David Gerrold. It was published in 1972, but is still an SF book I'm very fond of. The computer in it was a kind never built - a hydraulic computer. I think it is still a fun read.

When did Colossus come out and who wrote it?

I've read that. And "When Harlie Was Two." David Gerrold is a great author. I loved his War Against the Chtorr series (written almost as an apology for inflicting Tribbles on the world). I just hope he finishes the series before he dies (he is getting long in the tooth).

He'd stopped for awhile because of a dispute with his publisher that ended with him and the publisher parting ways and all of his books being out of print for around a decade. Recently he's found a new publisher and has come out with a few new books. I've heard that he's pretty close to done with the next book in the series, I'm hoping it will come out soon.

    Brandie, what's @=Pbbt?

It's like a raspberry, sticking one's tongue out, making the phbbt noise, and probably drenching everyone in the vicinity in the process.

You're the second person in a month to ask me that, which tells me it's fallen out of "favor" or it was only popular amongst a certain subset of peeps.

Oh yuck, my grandma used to do that. If we saw one coming on we'd guide her towards the indoor flower pots.

I don't have the time to read many books but that was a good one.

    Title? Author?

Here you go. First in a trilogy. Ancient stuff.

Ancient, maybe, but it looks really interesting. I may have to go look that up.

Jason, dialed into the S3oLV meeting tonight, absolutely phenomenal stuff from Stacia Misner on PowerPivot. Are all the meetings like that? 😉 Think I asked more questions over LiveMeeting than the attendees did.

Steve, I'll dial in for your presentation in November too.

Wow, just blown away with what this will do for my current job responsibilities....now to get users asking for it to put pressure on IT.

And, since it's almost tomorrow now, time for my nightly 5-hour nap before work tomorrow! (*ahem - School Sucks when you have to work fulltime)

    [/out]

Sounds interesting! Where can I find out more? (sorry I don't already know and missed it even if it may have been obvious... I've been in a "fog" because of work and a whole bunch of presentation development).

If you're talking about the chapter stuff, http://www.sssolv.com/[/url], supposedly they'll be posting the slide deck and the meeting was recorded, so I'm assuming it will be uploaded too. Some technical difficulties, but even still, I'm planning on getting my team together and watching the whole two hours. Not only explained PowerPivot clearly, but was a whole discussion on WHY it exists, and how it can help. I kept finding myself nodding vehemently and saying "Thank you, somebody gets it" over and over.

If you meant the tool itself, there's the link above, and Stacia suggested www.powerpivotpro.com, which I haven't had a chance to check out. Also Mark Tab[something] (www.marktab.net) did a presentation on Data Mining using SSIS/PowerPivot for BI VC which was really good, I'm waiting for that one to be posted too.

I need to get with Charley (the guy who recorded last night) about the posting of last nights session to the web.
