Still don't have access to a even a sandbox to start playing with Oracle.

Install one. It's quite easy, even for a poor noob like me.

I got Sun VirtualBox + openSuSE + Oracle 11.2 up and running in one morning.

The difficult part is doing something useful with it 😀

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

  • Seriously... I need to contact someone running the SQL Saturday #60 event in Cleveland and the even email won't take an email from me. It doesn't like my provider. If you know someone that's involved in running that event, please have them contact me via PM as soon as they can. I really appreciate it. Thanks.

Hey Jeff you don't have to Twit, you could just follow ppl.

Thanks Brandie. It's probably working... just not for people like me because my provider (att.net, formerly ameritech.net) looks like a spammer to a lot of other providers if spam rejection is setup rather than spam isolation.

  • Jeff - Allen White (MVP) is one of the leaders in setting up

SQL Sat#60 .. He is also the leader of the Ohio North Special Interest Group (SQL Group) or ONSIG as it is known.

I will be attending their scheduled monthly meeting this evening (Thur Sept 9th 5 PM) Allen is the main speaker presenting - Source Control for DBA's

Allen White and Brian Davis - Upsearch Technologies and Antares.

Might you have his phone number/e-mail address in that info available only to MVPs?

Eithe case will keep you informed.

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

    It's not just you, Jeff.

This is a delivery status notification, automatically generated by my mail server name parsed out on Thu, 09 Sep 2010 07:17:02 -0400 Regarding recipient(s) : sqlsaturday60@sqlsaturday.com Delivery status : Failed. Message could not be delivered to domain <sqlsaturday.com> .Failed while initiating the protocol. <[('sqlsaturday60@sqlsaturday.com', 550, 'Unknown user')]> MTA Response :550 The original message headers are included as attachment.

Apparently this one doesn't have the email set up or set up correctly. Or they're just having domain problems in general.

Or you're spending your days cleaning fish on your desk instead of dealing with those damned TPS reports.

Not that simple here. I can't install anything on my desktop system without approval. If this were my previous employer and I needed an Oracle sandbox, it won't be an issue.
