Requires extensive understanding of ColdFusion and SQL Server software installation procedures as well as expert level skills in database backup and recovery. All I can say is, "ummmm...."

Ummm, all we really want is one person to do the job of three for no extra money what so ever, after all we are trying to SAVE money. ๐Ÿ˜‰

How many of here have experience with "Object Data Base Connections (ODBC)"?

Expert and Extensive .... where is Urgent?

Possibly one of the ones who believes in the 'interview questions' type of post should apply.

Oh, that may create multiple Urgent posts.

Also wondered why ODBC reminded me of "Open DataBase Connectivity". Then again, maybe I'm just a little out of touch.

Alvin, did you ask the recruiter what they were willing to offer for that "Doing Brillianty at Anything" position?

Ha! Some manager went on-line and looked up acronyms.

I love that they want someone who knows PHP, Cold Fusion and ASP.Net. If you want all three you have no idea what you want.

  • Back in 2007 I was stuck in a dead end job that once had been a great place to work but the company changed. I had a new boss who was terrible and went through a title change. I was demoted from Director of IT and given the title DBA. I put that title on my resume and dozens of recruiters called me. I had been in that company for over 7 years. I hadn't had a single interview during that time or thought a lot about my resume.

Of the dozens of recruiters 2 were really high class. They helped me prep for interviews and helped me with my resume. They also understood my skill set. Within a week of the title change I had a job offer that matched what I was looking for as well as the employer.

Since then I've kept my resume up to date. I've also kept a list of decent recruiters, just incase. One of the recruiters that didn't place me 2 years ago when I was looking wrote a recommendation for me on linkedin last month, unsolicited.

  • Good for you Trey. Nice to see some recruiters actually doing their job. I haven't had great luck with them, but they are handy to find openings and do some initial setup for me.

Open Database Connectivity, now there I can talk. Wrote an entire app using the ODBC API. But this Object Database Connection thing... never heard of it.

When are these recruiters going to contact me? ๐Ÿ™ No one ever contacts me... My LinkedIn is already beefed up. Cant beef it up anymore. ๐Ÿ˜€

Roy, do you have the part of your profile checked that says you're willing to get job offers?

If not, go back and update your profile. I don't remember exactly what the option label is, but you'll recognize it when you see it. "Willing to Relocate" is among them also.

Me, actually. We have a lot of little bitty non-SQL dbs floating around our workplace. Legacies of old mergers / buyouts and a BU that really wants to hang on to their power to fudge numbers. @=)

EDIT: Okay, I only read the acronym when I responded to this post. I didn't read the actual words. Good point, Alvin.

Of course, when I see "crap" like this listed in a job description and do have experience, even though they have the name wrong, I'll point out in my cover letter that I "have experience using ODBC, also known as Open Database Connectivity". And if I get a call back (usually, I do) then I know they're flexible types and not the hard-nosed "We're always right even when we're wrong" types that I don't want to work with.

  • Jack Corbett (8/30/2010)[hrIf PASS just wants to be a conference or conferences (SQLRally) and training events then that's fine with me, but at that point I think the by-laws need to change because they say that the purpose of PASS is:

to provide the premier independent forum for users of Microsoft SQL Server

and users and vendors of products and services that are of interest to users of Microsoft SQL Server

    internationally

I don't think just being a conference/training provider does that.

You know, if one considers web forums as well as people-present forums I reckon there's already an organisation that achieves that objective. It is of course SQLServer Central.

A conference/training provider certainly couldn't achieve that objective.

[quote-0As requested: "Mรคdchen fรผr alles" = a utility man or a gofer (not in the meaning of an unskilled worker but rather a person that's called whenever something needs to be done)

Strange enough, "Mรคdchen" is actually "girl", but is translated as "man"... but what would a "utility girl" do?

There is an "adult" translation available, too... But I guess that's not the one Jan was thinking of ;-)[/quote-0]

I liked the job request I got in 2003 that specified they wanted someone with 5 years of experience in VB.Net. It had only been out for a year at that point.
