I've had a few LinkedIn pings recently as well.Good to know it's working. I don't think networking is reliable, or guaranteed, but it works.
I had one a couple of weeks ago.

Connections via SSC and LinkedIn have got my phone ringing off the hook (well, the phone isn't old enough to do that literally, but you get the idea) from recruiters and HR people looking for a DBA. I've had more activity since Jack and Andy connected me to a few people than I've had in the prior month. Thanks guys!
That is good news. Good luck with the search.

Was August the month for SHRINKDATABASE and SHRINKFILE? The forums appeared to have these through them like a stick of sea-side rock for the past month.I'm surprised Gail's link about shrinking databases hasn't become the number 1 Google hit, with the number of times she's had to post it.
Shrinking databases. Hit statistics:
May 2010: 130
June 2010: 149
July 2010: 115
August 2010: 186
9th most popular post on my entire blog.
So which posts are more popular? 😀
The Exists vs in vs join series (all 4), my April fools day post, Catch-all queries, a post on join types in the exec plan and the one on recovering from a deleted transaction log.
I thought the Exists... series would be in that list but completely forgot about the April fools day post. That was a classic.

Are these for positions in Tampa, or does it look like you might have to move?

By the way, I was contacted about a position in Kansas City that you'd be qualified for. I haven't responded because I'm not moving to KC and I don't know anyone in that area.

I think we may have been contacted about the same position - I've had a couple recruiters ask me about KC. I'm not planning to move there so declined as well.

If your contact email looked like mine, it was simultaneously a**-kissing and completely generic. The guy waxed prolific about how great I am and how qualified without ever mentioning any specific thing I've done that makes him think so.
Regardless of the behavior of the head-hunter, it looked like an interesting position.

Sounds like the same deal - through linkedin.

Man, now I am feeling inadequate. I didn't get the same offer. Need to beef up my LinkedIn profile I guess.

He posted in the forums here too, generic ad looking for a top-shot DBA. Mass advertising and hoping that he'll flatter someone enough for them to accept?

Grant's comment leads me to this question: What do the rest of you do if you get a call, or linked in mail, but aren't looking for a job?
I do tend to ignore the emails, but return the calls and say "No, thanks." The only time I'll respond to email is if it's someone I know. But is that a good policy? Would it be better to send an email response?

I only respond to someone I know if it looks like the email was sent just to me, i.e. it makes reference to something that only applies to me. I don't respond if broadcasted emails unless there's something that I want from the reply.
