Gail is on the verge of hitting 20K. Wow. I am at 2300. It will take me a decade or more to get to that figure.
@jeff : I am getting the Net meeting set up. SQL Pass is helping me out there along with our new mentor @sqlchicken

Hey, for any lurkers in the neighborhood of Jacksonville, FL, we're doing a "So, you've never spoken before" topic for September's monthly JSSUG meeting. Everyone who wants to test speak gets 5-15 minutes for a mini-session. We're willing to mentor anyone who wants to give it a shot.
PM me for more details, or visit JSSUG at http://www.jssug.com (redirects to http://jacksonville.sqlpass.org/).
No matter how far away you are, if you're willing to drive to Jax, we're willing to help you through the first time jitters.

Excellent idea. I'd also think about having topics there to prompt people to talk. If you could record this, or get feedback from people that try it, or won't try it, I'd be interested in how it goes.

I've tried to unsunscribe from this thread, but I want notification on other threads, and always manage to end up back on this thread.
At times it's a little overwhelming, but I tend to batch delete things.

I'd like to spend something like 15 minutes at every meeting for something like this.
We used to have a "tool of the month" segment at our Dot Net user Group meetings for the same purpose. It went well at first, then people lost interest.

The UK usergroups do this sort of a thing. Cant say that there has been an amazing response at the London group, maybe thats just coz we Brits would find pretty much anything preferential to standing up infront of a room of strangers.

Was August the month for SHRINKDATABASE and SHRINKFILE? The forums appeared to have these through them like a stick of sea-side rock for the past month.I'm surprised Gail's link about shrinking databases hasn't become the number 1 Google hit, with the number of times she's had to post it.
Shrinking databases. Hit statistics:
May 2010: 130
June 2010: 149
July 2010: 115
August 2010: 186
9th most popular post on my entire blog.
The temptation to hold down the F5 key almost overwhelmed me. 😛

Connections via SSC and LinkedIn have got my phone ringing off the hook (well, the phone isn't old enough to do that literally, but you get the idea) from recruiters and HR people looking for a DBA. I've had more activity since Jack and Andy connected me to a few people than I've had in the prior month. Thanks guys!

Awesome. Glad I could be of help. BTW - I had a person contact me via LinkedIn asking when you were going to get back to them.;-)

I've had a few LinkedIn pings recently as well.
Good to know it's working. I don't think networking is reliable, or guaranteed, but it works.
