Um Gus, just what the heck are we looking at there? (scary question I know, I'll probably regret it)It's a pic of a pet iguana I used to have.
Aha, I see it. Thought the pic was pixellated or something, couldn't wrap my head around it.

Anyone know how to get SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer Edition without an MSDN subscription? I'm been searching and searching without any luck. This is a decent list of places that claim to sell it
I say "claim" because I haven't checked the links.
Thanks Stefan. Now why did those links not come up in my search?
Anyone know if 2008 Dev can be upgraded to 2008 R2 Dev for free. MS website does not appear to have the info.
I'd gotten mine through Amazon, but that doesn't appear to be an option at the moment.
I'd love to know if there's a free upgrade too. I think I have 2008 (non R2) at home, but now I need to check.

My title is DB Architect but what they really needed was somebody to do db dev, db admin, and db architect.
Yeah, I've found they usually need multiple roles filled. They usually expect both Architect and Developer to be the same position. I've rarely been asked to do Admin tasks, but it does happen, like on my current assignment! I'm just happy there are so many good resources including this site that let me rapidly get up to speed on whatever I don't know how to do.

Amazon does not have the R2 edition. I got the original 2008 version from there. Time to upgrade.
It would be nice if MS would provide a free copy to PASS Chapter leaders.

And with the typos in his query (sorce, CountEntery), he's going to need to do a lot of troubleshooting in the future.

The executive assistant to our CIO put my title officially as Data Business Administrator and put it up as a sign on the front of my cube. I thought it was funny at first because she really didn't know what the letters DBA stood for and guessed at it. As time has gone by I kind of like it now because it reminds me that at the end of the day I'm responsible for the data that drives the business. The business at the end of the day is my customer.

ACK! We've been invaded! There's one of those non-DBA types on this thread.
Shush!
He's not the only one 😛
Yeah -- I'm not a DBA, either!!! :Whistling:
Nor me - DB Administration is just something I do in the odd spare moment between bits of real work 😀 (real work is setting up backup and recovery schemes, rewriting the appalling ill-performing buggy rubbish SQL that some DBA wrote, designing schemata, and all those other non-DBA tasks). 😀
(I guess I'd better lie low for a while now :Whistling:.

Ok, I'll get this started.Hello everyone. I'm Alvin Ramard and I am NOT a DBA. 🙂
Hell, I'm only letting them call me a DBA because it pays more.
That's terrible. I always refused to be classed as a DBA because I couldn't afford the pay cut.

Grant must have been thinking about an Oracle DBA. 😀
