Are the posted questions getting worse?

I think the SQL Rally is designed to "try" some things out that don't happen at the Summit, and get more speakers there. Personally I'd like to have people submit as many as they want, and then have the community vote for a few weeks with the top xxx going to a committee. I might also let them vote on speakers as well, and let a committee decide who to pick and what.

Ok... I've absolutely missed the bubble here... what's the URL for SQLRally and are they still looking for speakers?

    Jeff,

There isn't a SQLRally website yet, nor has there been a call for speakers. Pretty much all we have so far is a name, a date (May 11-13, 2011), and a location (Orlando, FL). We are still working out the details. You can read more about the event on Andy Warren's blog (www.sqlandy.com), Kendal Van Dyke's blog (http://kendalvandyke.blogspot.com) and my blog (http://wiseman-wiseguy.blogspot.com).

Thanks, Jack. I've seen those posts and thought I'd missed something. Any chance of you sending me a PM or something when the call for speakers goes out? That would be an event that I'd like to attend and have to present at if possible.

    Thanks...

  • I am disappointed. I was trying to get Redgate to sponsor a speaker for our user group. They came up with an idea that Brad could do a Net meeting. Now they have turned us down completely saying brad does not have time for us.

Maybe our crowd is too small for a big company like that. But it is very disappointing.

I might be able to help. I've not done a remote presentation on my own before so I'd need a little help setting it up, but I believe I could do a presentation for you if you'd like. Let me know, Roy.

  • You know, I've never thought about trying a remote presentation. Now there's an idea to get more speakers "out" to more events.

  • speaking of which, anybody used yuuguu before? supposedly the presenter installs, and the audience doesn't have to do anything to view the presentation, not sure 'zackly how that works, trying it out tonight.

  • Jeff, Thank You. Our user group would love that. maybe for September we could try that out? 🙂 Thanks once again. 🙂

  • I would appreciate if any of you who are going to use remote speakers, or are going to broadcast your user group meetings, could post the URL in here. We're considering trying either/both for our PASS Chapter and I'd like to see what the experience is like for the remote viewer.

I got the chance to catch most of Grant's presentation to Jason's group the other night. From a technology point of view, I was happy with how it worked. Great presentation too. I learned quite a bit about reading execution plans.

I'll try to remember to do that, but no promises. It'll definitely go out on all 3 blogs, plus the PASS blog and Connector email. Hopefully Steve will get it in the SSC newsletter as well.

    Roy,

I'll try to do one for you sometime remotely. I'd like to come out, just not sure I can swing it. I may be in the Bahamas next year, might check if there's an easy way to get to you from there at a reasonable price as well.

In terms of RG, my suspicion is that they've been inundated with requests for meetings and Brad is booked up. I'd keep asking, maybe schedule something for 2011.

  • Jeff,

Keep an eye here, and the newsletter. We'll publish something when we hear.

  • I think a trip to the Bahamas would be nice. I wonder if I could work it into the budget...

A trip to curacao is much better. Nice white sandy beaches, friendly people, good diving spots and a very good night life. Food is very good as well. 🙂 We have some pretty good beer. Does that tempt you?

We would love to have you here. And remote will also work fine. I am still working on some sponsorship. Then at least we could meet some of the expenses.

Beaches food and vacation are temptations.

Would they still come up with some $'s? They are really pushing SQL Source Control hard right now so if you could guarantee them a demo of SQL Source Control, I bet that they'd come up with the cash anyway.

Have you contacted Confio? I'm not sure who your contact would be with them, but I could find out and get them to contact you or pass along the contact information that I get.
