Are the posted questions getting worse?

Okay, now it's my turn to vent about this Celko person.

    http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic967585-392-2.aspx#bm967672

What part of "I figured out my problem" does he NOT understand?!?!?!?

Granted, I don't know as much as a lot of people on these forums (and I don't pretend to), but nothing pisses me off more than someone insulting my intelligence.

Many just disregard what he says. It's a persona he employs in the forums. I don't agree with the soapbox and so I just skip past it.

Sorry, but that is my number one pet peeve. Anyone who knows me pretty much knows that insulting my intelligence is equivalent to a kiss of death.

One I like from South Africa is Hluhluwe. And yes I had no clue the first time I saw it.

Yeah, that one is hilarious. I'll give people a hint, in Zulu (where that word comes from) h is often pronounced 'sh'

How about "Umhlanga" (a very nice beach)

    How about Worcester?

If you read German & English the correct pronunciation is, of course:

    Vorchester

If you're from Massachusetts though, you'd say:

    Woostah

    Figure that one out.

Hmm, there's a Wooster Ohio, you don't suppose that was supposed to be Worcester and devolved into Wooster?

Either way, excellent sauce they make.

Ray, you don't like your intelligence insulted? So what are you doing on this planet then? 😀

I know the feeling - just understand he pulls the same bit with a lot of very intelligent people.

Many just read his name now and move on without reading the post.

Don't know that one for sure but assume it was pronounced similarly to Hluhluwe. I breezed through Kwazulu-Natal on the way back to the states from La Reunion, La Mauritius, and Madagascar in the mid 90's.

That's a whole nutha topic there.

    Pronunciation: \'wu?s-t?(r)-?shir-, -sh?r- also -?shi(-?)r-Function: noun

Etymology: Worcestershire, England, where it was originally made

    Date: 1843

: a pungent sauce whose ingredients include soy, vinegar, and garlic

I never thought it to be pungent. I also thought it was pronounced wu?rs-t?(r)-?shir

Not me. I'm not a native. I have a strange accent that is part Okie, part New York. I confuse everyone. We beat our children any time they drop "R's" in words like car.

I once went to a game in Fenway Park ("Pahk"?) and struck up a conversation with a girl sitting next to me. After talking for a while, she said to me, "you're from New York, aren't you?" I said, "yeah, how'd you know???" She said, "something you said -- you definitely have a New York accent."

To this day, it's the only time in my life I was ever told I had any kind of accent!

(Or maybe the other giveaway was that, as a Yankee fan, I was rooting against the Red Sox! :hehe:)

    Have you got your towel?

    Some towns in Mississippi:

Gautier: Go-shay ...but people with Gautier for a last name might say their name is Go-tee-ay

    Kosciusko: Kozzy-ess-ko

    Yocona: Yok-nuh

    Biloxi: Bill-luck-see

    Always!

I just hope the Vogon Constructor Fleet doesn't show up!

    Kosciusko: Kozzy-ess-ko

That's interesting -- the name Kosciusko is significant around these parts. He was a Revolutionary War hero, and has a local bridge named after him.

    And we pronounce it "Kozzy-USE-ko"!
