    Celko is at it again

    http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic965546-1292-1.aspx#bm966047

For a community which attempts to help, even the most inept, and helps so many this guy Celko is a real detriment ....

Is there any way of shutting him up, or teaching him you catch more flies with honey than vinegar?

And this is why I won't purchase his books, nor do I really have any desire to meet him personally. And yes, I have heard that his online persona is nothing like him in person, but when this is your first and only impression, doesn't really matter does it.

Me neither, and certainly not because I've run out of stuff to learn πŸ˜›

Of the people that have a Kindle or Nook or both, can books be shared between people with the same device?

Still digging through the Thread from three days off, so I'm not sure if this has been answered or not.

For the Kindle the answer is "sort of" (note: not "it depends"). You can share between multiple devices if those devices are registered to the same account. Otherwise, no, not without hacking the DRM (not that I know how to do that).

I think one of those has a 'lending' capability, forget which.

According to the sales people at B&N, the Nook has a lending capability.

Sounds to me like he's trying to do too many things at once while thinking they're all the same thing. He really has been thrown into the deep end here.

Don't jump off that cliff quite yet. @=)

Run, Gail. Get paid to do work. I'll help as I can, and other people are also welcome to put their common cents in the pile too.

Mostly the same here. I've seen his rants on dozens of forums. The reviews of his books seem to indicate a similar haughty and arrogant demeanor in his writings there. I did happen across a copy of the "SQL for Smarties" book and although I don't remember the specifics (it was a long time ago), I do remember being totally unimpressed for those things that I did read in the book. I've also read several excerpts from his books that he's posted word for word here and there. Not that impressed with those, either. Seems like he's more interested in showing how smart he is rather than helping someone who isn't. Even if his books were good, I wouldn't spend the money just because his arrogance and demeanor don't deserve my business.

Of the people that have a Kindle or Nook or both, can books be shared between people with the same device?

I have a Kindle and I love it, but no, there isn't a sharing option unless the devices are registered to the same person. I understand the reason behind it. After all, while you can loan a printed book out, the person receiving it isn't likely to make a copy of the printed book. If that person wants a copy after reading it, another book will have to be bought. Thus, the author/publisher is compensated for their work. But copying the digital format takes a few clicks of the finger and thus the author and publisher don't get compensated for their work, which I do not believe is fair.

But still, the absence of that feature is annoying.

Some books can be lent. Some cannot. It's an interesting idea, but it's not quite there. You can lend once, for 14 days, and you lose the book while it's out. A good idea, and I understand why they did it, but not a great idea.

You can have multiple Kindles on one account, but they share the credit card on file at Amazon, so not really a choice outside your family. However if you go iPad, you can use both BN and Kindle apps. My son has my old iPhone and is reading some of the sci-fi that is in my Amazon account. I have books on file at both Amazon and BN, and he can download any I've purchased to that device, even if they're on my device.
