What do you'll think about this[/url]? Is there a valid point? Are the people screaming about it being racist? Something else?

Isn't it sad that the racism card is played like that?

The sadder thing is that by crying racism, they are promoting racism. It is a feedback loop. It is also akin to answering the question, "Do you still beat your wife?" How do you prove an action wasn't prompted by racism. It is also rather immature and childish.

Another example of an article that doesn't show America in its best light. There might be places where I think race should be taken into consideration, but this isn't one of them. It's definitely racism against Mrs. Placas. And the criticisms and complaints are judging in a way that they would not want to be judged anymore.
The one thing that I'll say is that hiring isn't necessarily about talent. Often it's about the best fit, with talent, experience, fit with the team, friendships, and other factors being weighed by someone in a subjective manner.
Excellent points as well that there is no outcry when (arguably) more important issues are discussed in the magazine.

Yeah, Jack, come on. Make some people angry so we're know you're really running for office.

You should see the looks I get from the Security at all airport when I am flying... 🙂 They take my passport, and come back after 15 minutes saying, "Yep, you can fly". 😀

After that you should start flapping your arms and say: "Are you sure I can fly?" 😛

Alvin, airport people don't like jokes. Especially from people whose passports they've already "examined" in a "random" way.
I'm sure Roy wants to go back to Curacao after his travels and not Guantanamo Bay.

I think whoever hired Ms. Placas should be applauded for going above racism.
It took courage to make such a decision, knowing that a large segment of their readership might not approve.

I definitely have opinions on those 2 topics, but I just don't think anything I say will lead to anything constructive. Having said that here's what I think:
1. In the United States the constitution guarantees you the right to practice your religion.
2. Race\Gender should not be a factor in hiring.

Once it happened when I was going out of Curacao. One of the Dutch marines who act as airposrt security took my passport, My wife was coming 5 steps behind me (She is from curacao and has Dutch passport), She made one big scene and that guy gave my passport in hurry... 😀

Yep, and I agree with those two things.
But here's the question concerning practicing your religion, if you kill someone because your "religion" demands it, are you "practicing your religion" or committing murder?
Those who practice Islam need to answer that question to the satifaction of those who don't practice Islam (and the same goes for any other religion). Until such a time as that question is answered, the Islam religion (and those who practice it in whatever form) will be viewed as suspect.

Nowhere does the constitution grant anyone the right to murder anyone, regardless of supposed religious intent. The first of those inalienable rights is life.

And that is something that needs to be examined with each individual who hides behind religion as a reason for committing heinous crimes. Even if it is religion driving you to commit such an act (whether agnostic, christian, islam, jew, hindu or atheist) you can still be held accountable by law. But we shouldn't condemn all branches of a religion because a group of fanatics decides to take their religious beliefs to the extreme. We are supposed to be more tolerant of race and religion as a society.
