Looks like the data transfer should be done around 6am this morning. Then some schema checks, some backups and outa here.
Doesn't sound like a good weekend but at least you'll make a few extra bucks. That's better than having to go thru this as a salary employee and getting nothing extra out of it. I've been there, in the engineering days. π

It's Sunday 1am and I'm recovering a 120 GB sql database from a month old backup and a collection of flat files. DBA? We don't need a DBA!This kind of BS has gone on for too long. It's time to make the managers that make these bad decisions pay!!
At this point they are paying, round about $500/hour for the people they have on site fixing the mess. (and for those who think that's cheap, bear in mind the exchange rate and that costs of most things are a lot lower here than Europe/USA)
It's set them back a few million in total so far.
Does that include the cost of the loss of the most recent month's data?

There won't be more than a couple days lost by the time I'm done. That's what the collection of flat files is for.

Are those flat files there for DR? Or were they loads of some sort?

Am outa here for the weekend.
I think the first one may have read somewhere that we want to see tables scripted and some code, and expressed himself badly with that "for your review". His "how to do it" is bizarre, so I commented on that - I'm not interested in looking his table definitions or his code because while the description in English is plainly wrong there's no hope of getting the code right (and the code and table definitions don't appear to cover the "rotation" requirement anyway, unless that's what the two rank columns are for).

Kinda the latter (don't want to get into more detail). Definitely no DR planning happening here.

Wow! If that's actually true, that's WAY too low for someone of your level of talent, Gianluca. You need to have a look around and, no, you shouldn't have to move to get a better hourly rate.

That's shocking. Why so low? What's the going rate for a dba in your area?
I've just Jobserved SQL Server DBA in Reading, England +- 25 miles, the result was 5 pages with an average Β£350 per day. Look around, confirm what you are worth. If you are earning significantly less then there has to be an awfully good reason.

Thank you for your kind words, Jeff. Unfortunately, my rate seems to be perfectly aligned with the market here. Looking at the job market in my area I should be happy to have a job.
I sometimes see 150K $/year DBA positions in the US and I wonder why I'm still here.

There's an awfully good reason over all: I'm not a freelance.
It's not a good moment to start consulting. You get a lot of work, but nobody pays. I'm sure the bank will want to see the mortgage paid every month anyway.
