He's acted that way just about each time I've disagreed with him. Got almost an 'I told you so!' feeling from him on reply.
Hmmm. I don't think I've had any direct interaction yet. Read enough to form a pretty firm view though.
Thanks for the repro - I'm glad it works that way.

... it's by design, beacase the tables were initially loaded with NOLOGGING optionAnd people still ask for a way to run SQL transactions without any logging....
I don't want to say "Oracle sucks" (even if it's so :-D). I'm just saying it's too complex to have a chance to work.
My brother in law used to work for a microwave oven productor and he designed very simple ovens. His philosopy was "what's missing can't break".
After today's restore, I couldn't agree more.

[ Bragging Rights = ON ]Many of you know that my daughter Kassondra enlisted in the Army last year. She enrolled in an on-line college to begin working on her bachelors degree earlier. In keeping her options open and looking at alternatives, she has been talking to her Captain over the past couple of weeks.
She has four officers (possibly a fifth, a LtC) working with her. Over the next six to nine months, they will be putting together the packet necessary for her to (hopefully, many prayers requested here) attend West Point as a part of the Class of 2015.
Her Captain has even told her he'd come to her graduation.
[ Bragging Rights = OFF ]
Very cool... big time congrats to Kassondra!

I have to admit, I saw that one. I read the description and scrolled through the scripts and said "not a chance" for the same reasons mentioned. It looks like the OP just wants somebody to do all of it.

I know my answer was not very helpful, but I couldn't resist. 😀

You're absolutely right. I can't believe he calls himself a sql dba in the post.
I like where he says <I>2 servers are going to production within 2 days.</I>
No, they're not.

Looks like you gave him some good advice, Alvin. I hope he's already been googling until his retina burn, that's how I get up to speed on anything I don't know how to do in SQL Server. Sure, I come here for answers, but I don't post until I've exhausted my researching capabilities. I feel for the op, but you're right, his best option is to sit down with management and try to get them to understand the situation. I like that you put the part in there about the resume simply because I've been on enough jobs where management refused to see they were completely unreasonable and at times like that your best resource is a good resume.

I seconded the advice, which was sound. My guess is we have someone misleading people about their knowledge, or stuck in a bad situation. It's a coin flip, and I don't know what to think. If management is telling the guy he needs to support these servers and "figure it out", I feel bad for him, but I guess he needs to sink or swim on his own.

It's hard to say what the real situation is, but it's obvious that the company will not have the best arrangement. This person could end up being a great DBA, but the company will have to make a commitment to provide some training.
And, as I said in the other post:
You know what upsets me about this issue? Lots of companies would not have any second thoughts about doing this with SQL Server but wouldn't dare do this with Oracle. That's what you get with managers that do not have the proper qualifications for their positions.

Been there, in fact that is what introduced me to SQL Server back in the 7 days. Although it was rough going, and gave me a head full of grey hair, at least I used goggle, Amazon and SSC, and devored all I could. Lucky for myself that there was no disaster and so although painful at times I was able to learn. Even more luck, the manager was so incompetent that he did not know when I screwed up, nor when my use of cursors (excuse me Jeff) slowed things down to a crawl.
